I'm suprised this hasn't been brought up yet.

if you aren't aware of it, a good recap is here:
Joe Horn shooting controversy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

basically some texas hick shot two illegals dead for burglarizing the neighbors house.

did he have a right to take their lives?

@briansol,
Yup. It is legal in Washington to shoot if you, your property or someone else's property is in danger. You can also chase someone down right after the commission of a crime as well.

Every job has it occupational hazzards. Burglars risk death with each burglary they commit. They are hardly victims. Had the home owner been home, would they have taken his life?
Horn not only had the right, but the duty to protect his neighbor's life and or property.

and this law is fine, although shooting your neighbors burglars is setting yourself up for failure.

A month ago I called my cousin and he told me where his secret key was, I went in through his back door, grabbed his guitar hero controller and left. Neighbor doesn't know who I am and I'm dead.

But somebody burglarizing your own house, most defiantly. Anybody breaches my walls they're DOA and I won't loose a wink of sleep. There's no victim in that law, you pretty much have to make an appointment to be shot at

@briansol,
The fact that they were thugs warrants complete approval from me. If they had been anything else, I suppose I would have done my best to hold them until the police arrived. Fact is, we do not know exactly what we would have done, given the same circumstances. He had a shotgun and used it for his own protection. If he had been unarmed, he would have run risking personal injury from known felons.

@briansol,
I just watched the video again today of Quanell X and his Black Panther thugs going to Mr. Horns neighborhood to try to intimidate him. They were met by hundreds of local residents to disrupt their thugging of Mr. Horn.

@Fatal Freedoms,
as cool as i think vigilante justice would be, i think that was overkill

to kill someone over some material possesions is just plain wrong!

Unfortunately for them, in Texas, it is the letter of the law. Texas Penal Code Chapter 9, section 30-43 I believe.

Here ya go, Title II, Chapter 9 sections Sections 31 through 43.

Penal Code

@briansol,
Texas rocks. And I would do the same thing.

Was this the 911 call on LiveLeak where he says "BOO!, YOU'RE DEAD!"?
