When I hear people talk about jury duty, what I usually hear being talked about is ways to get out of it.
I have never understood this thinking. One of the things that is very valuable to thos of us in the United States is the rigth to a trial by jury. Why would you not take it seriously? I realize it is an inconvenience, but there may come a time in your life where you are in need of this also.
How do you approach a summons for jury duty?
@Mike W,
I think I'd enjoy it. I'm a law nerd though.
@Mike W,
I feel like our courts are fucked so much that my small contribution in some DUI case where everybody knows the person was drunk doesn't matter enough for me to 'work' a full day making a measly $10 and miss out on the rest of my life, including a real job that pays real money or classes where I could be learning.
@Mike W,
If you shirk jury duty you deserve the poor results some juries give the court system . Jury duty is DUTY and is important to preserving the quality of justice afforded to us here in the US . Our apathy toward jury duty undermines the premise of "jury of peers ".
Not participating is similar to not voting , if you don't participate , don't bitch about the results .
@Mike W,
Well, I'll not bitch about some retarded woman pouring hot coffee on her vagina then winning millions of dollars when I get called to participate on
that jury.

I agree with you completely.
