@rex b,
I doubt it as well. The violence will continue and they will turn into another Iran

@rex b,
Well the setup just says failure all over it, how can a country install a government that it's not even currently doing.

We republic, they democracy. Big difference.

@STEVE cv,
I doubt it either. They will never be a democratic society as we know it. All we did was a regime change. History shows that Iraq will never be truly stable. The oil money will never reach the poor, and corruption will a big problem in Iraq.

All we can do is back off and let them choose their fate. They seem to be finding common ground lately.

They need to get the oil flowing to pay for reconstruction. ASAP.

@rex b,
Unfortunately , I agree that Iraq probably will not remain a democracy as we know it after we leave . I don't think it is possible .
That is the area on which I disagree with the US in this endeavour .
If some type of government better than Sadaam keeps control , even in their own way , then maybe we will have made some strides toward a more peaceful Middle East .
It appears Iran will do their best to keep things stirred up , however .

@rex b,
The real question is how much longer will the United States pretend to be a free and democratic republic instead of a paranoid and scared bunch of merchants who like to shoot first and ask questions later.

Eventually the sheriff is going to show up.

Look at Cheney - blowing away old men in the middle of the desert for fun.

@rex b,
"Look at Cheney - blowing away old men in the middle of the desert for fun."

Just the same type of bs that the Washington News Nerds are spouting over what was clearly an accident . What purpose does it serve to cast aspersions on Cheney because his hunting partner FAILED to follow hunting protocol ?

Libs are upset with him because he doesn't cater to their whims , that is all .
