Phase III of Bush's War - HUMAN EVENTS

Those who hoped that -- with the victory of the antiwar party in 2006, the departure of Rumsfeld and the neocons from the Pentagon, the rise of Condi and the eclipse of Cheney -- America was headed out of Iraq got a rude awakening. They are about to get another.
Today, the United States has 30,000 more troops in Iraq than on the day America repudiated the Bush war policy and voted the GOP out of power. And President Bush, self-confidence surging, is now employing against Iran a bellicosity redolent of the days just prior to Operation Iraqi Freedom.

What gives Bush his new cockiness? The total collapse of the antiwar coalition on Capitol Hill and the breaking of the Congress.

Snip

"I have authorized our military commanders in Iraq to confront Tehran's murderous activities. ... We've conducted operations against Iranian agents supplying lethal munitions to extremist groups."

This suggests that U.S. forces may already be engaged in combat operations against Iranians.

Who or what can stop this drive to war?

Last spring, Nancy Pelosi herself, after a call from the Israeli lobby, pulled an amendment that would have forced Bush to come to Congress for specific authorization before attacking Iran. Before the August recess, the Senate voted 97 to zero for a resolution sponsored by Joe Lieberman to censure Iran for complicity in the killing of U.S. soldiers in Iraq.

The resolution explicitly rejected authorization for immediate military action, but the gist of it declared that Iran is participating in acts of war against the United States, laying the foundation for a confrontation.

@Drnaline,
Iran will be a real test for America. There's a real call by some Liberals and Pre 911 GOP (ron paul) to bring everybody home and give up the war on terror. It's a popular notion with some because it's the most comfortable thing to do, and you know how we Americans like to take the easy way out.

The fact is Iran today has done more against American then Germany did when we declared war on them, they're forgien policy includes genocide, and we're probably the only thing that will stop they're eventual nuclear way in the Persian Gulf and attempted conquest of the same, and before you say Iran would never do that remember their PM has already said "Once the US steps out of Iraq, we're stepping in"

I already told you this, GERMANY DECLARED WAR ON THE UNITED STATES ON DECEMBER 11, 1941. So no, Iran has NOT done more to us, in fact, they have done very little to us except supply logistical and operational support to our enemies. Did this give the USSR authority to make war on the US during their tenor in Afghanistan?

This foreign policy is LUNACY. We don't need to control that area of the world, and thus support of Israel (aside from being unnecessary given their nuclear and conventional capabilities) is unwarranted. You people have not considered the economic and political consequences of these policies, you just like the idea of "good v. evil".

@Drnaline,
Silver, you gotta admit, if humorous and ironic that you have such love for Americas fucked up, world police, foreign policy, and then have a parody of that same policy in your avatar.

Everytime I here, or see someone spouting the latest hyperbolesqe doodoo, I am reminded of all the people that got bilked in the 70's and 80's for underground nuclear fallout shelters.

The supposed "war on terror" was created by bush and his minions. Iraq was NOT the breeding ground for terrorists until bush launched his OCCUPATION of a soverign nation, which is illegal according to world law.

bush has given an irreparable scar to what America has once stood for.

War on terror. Dude, thats LAUGHABLE.

@FedUpAmerican,
I have to admit with the starter of this topic. When will the sleep come out of our eyes? This War on Terror isn't what the Terrorist call it. And it seems to be stalled in one country while in another country we are like we have been the last 54 years in S. Korea. under-maned and just hoping they wouldn't decide to do it again.
Iran is the reason............... Now sip your coffee and google or look at your e-mail account daily reports and news releases on this topic and it wouldn't hurt to get some more topics covered. And yes the news from a few different channels. Get the Big Picture in your mind. No I am not putting anyone down but I don't panic. An dthis world situation has me worried and pleased if my Bible and times are right.
I guess this is the best time to be alive........ I love it.

Once they actually try to do it, they'll bump up against America's Jewish Establishment, and fail. All talk of cutting and running will fall silent at that point. Democratic leaders are only spouting that junk now to get elected. Once in office, they'll keep us in Iraq, and do whatever else the broader mission in the Middle East requires. Those who believe what they're saying on the campaign trail, will be gravely disappointed after the elections.

I have to agree as this is the position I take on what has and is going to happen no matter what the spin and news bites say.
