It may seem like a quiet country where not much happens besides ice hockey, curling and beer drinking. But our neighbor to the north is proving to be quite the draw for thousands of disgruntled Americans.

The number of U.S. citizens who moved to Canada last year hit a 30-year high, with a 20 percent increase over the previous year and almost double the number who moved in 2000.

In 2006, 10,942 Americans went to Canada, compared with 9,262 in 2005 and 5,828 in 2000, according to a survey by the Association for Canadian Studies.

Canada turns my stomach, generally. I've never liked it. I escorted the G-2 (Intel guy) of the Canadian Army around in Panama City for a few days, back in the dang old day. He was cool. He joined the USMC during 'Nam, and served as a grunt, just to kill Commies. Cool dude. :thumbup:

@Drnaline,
You know, I think that's just fine. If they wish to leave, I say adios - don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

@Drnaline,
You might not like my country Pino but my people are the mirror image of your beloved Americans. Frankly I've never noticed a difference in culture only in accents.

I'd rather have Mericans than Europians coming to my shores.

I read this link after I replied to A QUESTION TO AMERICAN CITIZENS ONLY - this is exactly the point I made there. All that Pax Americana is about is to prevent such flight of capital.

I meant no offense to you, Red. You seem swell.:peace:

Nah....it's the liberalism and intentional anti-Americanism I dislike. In search of its own identity, Canada feels obligated to always oppose or at least criticize the U.S. abroad. I can't stand its deliberate courtship of Fidel Castro and his murderous regime, in that vain.:headbang:

Because they were ideologically confused and weak. They clung to the British and French in times past, but lost touch with those nations and cultures as time marched on. Since then, Canadians have felt overpowered by the U.S., due to geographical proximity, and cultural similarity. Again, to appear independent to the international community, Canada has made several deals with the Devil, yet continues to strike that community, as an insignificant, lost country. The harder it tries, the more confused it appears. Canada is screwed. :FU1:

Canada, Australia, Jamaica, Belize, Puerto Rico, and New Zealand should annex themselves to the United States.

GW's genius is invisible. Anybody who can realign America's Jews with the Republicans is a miracle-worker. That's what he did. For that, and that alone, he's a great man.:thumbup:

I love Mexicans, but we don't want to become a replica of Mexico. Even most of my Mexican-American friends freely assert that.

Once you get past the border, the Mexican people are great. They love their families, honor their god and are warm and hospitable.

At least half of everybody who means a lot to me down here in south Texas is Hispanic, and the majority of them are Mexican-Americans. I really do love the Hispanic people, but Spanish America is a severe wreck. We have to be honest about that, as we grope toward our Hispanicized future.:headbang:
