Al Gore's 'Inconvenient' Hypocrisy: Mansion an Energy Hog

Former Vice President (and global warming aficionado) Al Gore deserves an award for hypocrisy, says the Tennessee Center for Policy Research.

The group, which studied Gore's electric and natural gas consumption, says his mansion in Belle Meade area of Nashville "consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year."

In his documentary, "An Inconvenient Truth," Gore urges Americans to conserve energy by reducing electricity consumption at home, the group noted.

"The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) a year, according to the Department of Energy. In 2006, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 kWh-more than 20 times the national average," the Tennessee Center for Policy Research said in a news release.

@Drnaline,
Bush's House More Eco-Friendly Than Gore's

President George Bush may be a nemesis of the global green movement and Al Gore its hero, but the president's home is arguably far more environmentally-friendly than the home of the man he defeated in the 2000 election.

Bush's "Western White House" in Crawford, Texas, has been praised as "an eco-friendly haven" while the former vice-president's home in Nashville, Tennessee was criticized this week for heavy power consumption.

"In politics, people don't always practice what they preach," Marlo Lewis, Jr., a senior fellow at the conservative Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI), told Cybercast News Service on Wednesday.

Bush has been criticized harshly by environmentalists for his opposition to the Kyoto Protocol and its mandatory cuts on emissions of carbon dioxide and other gases blamed for global warming.

@Drnaline,
Nuclear power generates waste that lasts much more than a century and is much more dangerous
There is other technology that could fill much of the need if developed. Granted wind, thermal and solar can only fill a small niche right now but there are also improvements in conventional energy generation that would go miles toward that goal.
Im not a huge Al Gore fan but it should be pointed out that Gore also paid many times more per killowatt hour for his energy needs because it was purchased from a "Green" source. In the end I think its better to be a little paranoid right now when we can do something a little at a time and have it make a difference, than wait until it is almost to late.
