@Drnaline,
I think the arguement comes down to, the harder one works the more he gets whacked on payday, where as those who milk the system of those hard earned tax dollars you just paid to the government, sit around and do jack squat. there is no sense defending the wealthy, they take care of themselves, that is why they are wealthy. It's the middle class family that feels the most indignant. It's simple human nature, you cannot expect some to work hard and barely get by, while others do better by doing nothing. It generates envy and anger.
The welfare system creates a learned sense of hopelessness in an entire segment of the population. They actually begin to believe that they are entitled to a free ride because the system tells them so. It's a socio-economic problem that will only snowball as the population grows.
My fore fathers who came to this country in the late 1800's and early 1900's had no safety net. They knew it was up to themselves to provide a living. They worked hard just like every other poor immigrant who came over in waves. They just wanted an oppurtunity to work. Today's poor that abuse the system don't want to work. They just want the hand outs that they are "entitled" too. I say anyone on welfare must work in a public works program to earn their money. Building roads , Bridges, litter pick-up etc.... Let's see if they go out and get a job then.
