This article on MSNBCdot com, is an example of spin by the media. Some of us know that the vast majority of readers don't get past the headline of a story, so they are lead by the headline to think only one way.
The headline of this story is-
"Deadliest Year for US in Iraq"
That statement is true, but reading the complete article will enlighten the reader that the number of deaths has declined monthly, especially since the beginning of the surge, and the years between 2004 and 2007 were lower than other years. Why not have a headline that reflects a positive spin?
Quote:At least 852 American military members died in Iraq in 2007, compared with 850 troops in 2004. That year saw mostly larger, more conventional battles like the campaign to cleanse Fallujah of Sunni militants in November, and U.S. clashes with Shiite militiamen in the sect's holy city of Najaf in August.
What do the naysayers have to counter these facts?
