@Curmudgeon,
There are so many ideas coming out of Washington it's getting difficult who we are supposed to believe.:wtf:

By the time they make their minds up it will be too late no matter what they do.

@Curmudgeon,
Honestly a I don't see how a surge of troops is going to help anything unless those surge of troops get down and dirty and start capping people that look at them the wrong way. The enemy isn't distinguished from a civilian.

@Curmudgeon,

Our soldiers should get back home soon...It is not a good thing tryin to help the enemy it would be mistaken for american imperialism...Let them crash and burn by themeselves!:thumbup:

@Sherman cv,
Now this -
What do the "cut and runners" have to say about this ? Their favorite UN has approved an extension of the mission in Iraq on the urgings of Nouri Al-Maliki . If the UN says stay , do they still want us to leave before the job is done ?

The UN Security Council voted unanimously yesterday to extend the mandate of the 160,000-strong multinational force in Iraq.

The council acted quickly in response to a request from Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, who said a top government priority is to assume full responsibility for security and stability in the country but that it needs more time.

The resolution, drafted by the U.S., extends the mandate of the multinational force for one year starting on Dec. 31 and authorizes a review at the request of the Iraqi government or by June 15.

The resolution contains the same provision as past resolutions: A commitment the council "will terminate this mandate earlier if requested by the government of Iraq."

Al-Maliki's request for the one-year extension with a termination clause came as the U.S. administration stepped up diplomatic efforts to stabilize the war-torn country, certain to be a top item on the agenda when U.S. President George W. Bush meets al-Maliki tomorrow in Jordan.

This report from AP should tell them that for at least a year , Iraq and the UN want the coalition to stay in Iraq .

@Curmudgeon,
What we decide to do isn't up to the U.N.:wtf:

How many nations who voted in favor have troops in Iraq?

Hell,Britain is pulling out at the end of 2007 anyway. This resolution don't mean anything, as usual.:thumbdown:

@Curmudgeon,
Why tumble, your willing to defy a UN resolution, and i thought it was just repugs that thought that.

@Drnaline,
What good is the U.N. if Russia and China block most resolutions?

@Curmudgeon,
IMO no good at all. There just a political body with an opinion there not always willing to enforce.

@Drnaline,
We will probably be in Iraq for the rest of our lifetimes. We broke it, we bought it.

The best we can hope for is not to fall apart like the Russians did over the course of their bit in Afghanistan (which, incidentally, is what Bin Laden has been hoping for and what he intended to provoke us into in the first place).

It's a mess, if you think you know how to win speak up. I don't think it's
possible with a country divided into thirds, and two of those are loyal to people who oppose us.

Also, the government of Iraq going to Iran and Syria for help securing the nation is a new twist. Our direct influence may well dwindle... what little we have, anyway.
