We should all have such sympathy for Rep. William Jefferson (D-LA). I mean, he only took $100,000 in a bribery, and he only stashed $90,000 of it in his freezer. What was that? NINETY THOUSAND DOLLARS wrapped in aluminum foil and placed inside of Tupperware containers in his freezer. Was someone trying not to get caught? The police found that money and subpoenad Jefferson for the files in his Congressional office. Jefferson *politely* denied access to his files, so the FBI raided his office and took them instead.
Now poor Denny Hastert (R-IL), the Speaker of the House, mind you, claims that through the raid, the FBI abused their power and disobeyed the Separation of Powers Clause in the Constitution.
My question is, when did Legislators become sovereign individuals that didn't have to answer to the law? Though they make the laws, they are not supreme beings, nor will they ever be. Had Ted Kennedy hid the evidence of his car crash in his congressional office, I suppose he never would have received negative publicity from it. Oh wait, that was a time Congressmen respected the Executive Branch and lived according to the laws which the Executive Branch is supposed to uphold.
There's a simple solution to the bribery and corruption investigations going on around Capitol Hill...STOP TAKING ILLEGAL MONEY. You get paid plenty as it is, stop being greedy.

The Executive Branch finally started to get turned in the relatively correct direction, and the Congress goes haywire.
@jatuab,
Abuse of power my ass. What they are asking for is special priviliges. I thought no man is above the law? It appears if you make the law you should be ubsolved of it's consiquence's(sic)?
