How big of an insult is it to lose to a dead politician?

@Brent cv,
Slightly similar occurrence here in Texas , in a Texas House of Representative race . Republican Glenda Dawson died almost 2 months before the election . Election rules did not allow her name to be removed from the ballot , similar to the Tom Delay case .
Ms. Dawson won the race by a fair margin , although dead . Now they will have to have a special election to fill the post .

On a higher level , the election to fill Tom Delay's seat had a special election to finish the term , and the regular election , in which rules forbade the inclusion of the viable Republican candidate , Shelly Sekula-Gibbs . Sekula-Gibbs' name had to be written in . She won by a reasonable margin in the special , but lost the regular election by about 10% only .

@tumbleweed cv,
More than likely, this is because people vote by political party instead of actual knowledge of the candidate. People vote because they are told they have a responsibility to vote. If you do not know who you are voting for, I'd rather you didn't. You're more likely to do damage than good and you aren't voicing your opinion since you don't know what you're doing. It highlights the inherent problem with voting blindly for your party. Lets face it, the government doesn't work the way it was meant to. We shouldn't care what a politician's beliefs are because they aren't there to enforce their beliefs. They're there to support ours and our freedoms. Our government is more like our conscience, deciding for us what is right or wrong.
