@Brent cv,
From what I have seen of the women in that part of the world I'd have to agree with the court.:cool:

@Brent cv,
The ruling has nothing to do with looks , and how many Somali women have you ever seen ?
I spent 6 months in Somalia a long time ago , and I will tell you there are some very nice looking women there . In addition , the ones I didn't find attractive were probably attractive to Somali men .

@Drnaline,
I don't find them attractive. To each their own. I don't think any less of them as a person.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.:240: :hititsmiley: :this_topic_sucks:

@Brent cv,
You don't think less of them? They why agree with a court decision to keep them off the beach. Don't you think it against there human rights? If you agree with the court, I'd like to know how you value women? Because it sounds like you don't, do you feel the same about American women?

@Drnaline,
It's call freedom of religion. Being covered in public is part of that religion .

So you want to tell someone else how to practice their religion?

If the women want to be part of that religion, they need to abide by it's guidelines.

It's none of our business.

I still think they are unattractive .Very Happy

@Brent cv,

@Drnaline,
"We stopped women from swimming because it is against the teaching of Islam for women to mingle with men, especially while they are swimming," said Sheikh Farah Ali Hussein, chair of a northern Mogadishu Islamic court.

Maybe you need to become familiar with their religious beliefs. These women know they aren't allowed to swim with men.:whipping:

It's none of our business.:banghead:

@Brent cv,
Germany, France, England, Italy, Japan, Korea, Nam. were all none of our business. We choose to involve ourselves. That is the power of us projecting our military.

So is this Islamic court, are they there own entity or are they part of the government? Or does it matter to you?

@Brent cv,
Food for thought.

The Supreme Islamic Courts Council (or Conservative Council of Islamic Courts), as the Islamist militia called itself by July 2006, was called the Islamic Courts Union before 24 June 2006 (ICU, Somali: Midowga Maxkamadaha Islaamiga, Arabic: اتحاد المحاكم الإسلامية Ittihād al-mahākim al-islāmiyya) (which is also known as the Joint Islamic Courts), is a group of Islamic leaders banded together in a self-appointed court system with Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed as overall leader. Currently they are in control of Mogadishu, the de facto capital of Somalia, Jowhar, an airport town 50 miles to the north and capital of Shabelle Dhexa, Kismayo, an imporant port on the south coast and capital of Jubba Hoose, Beletweyne, the capital of Hiiraan region, Dusa Mareb, capital of Galgadud, Hobyo, and important commercial port, and many other smaller towns and cities throughout central Somalia.

After the militia changed its name, Hassan Dahir Aweys became its new leader.

History
Main article: Rise of the Islamic Courts in Somalia
After the collapse of the Somali government in 1991, a system of sharia-based Islamic courts became the main judicial system, funded by fees paid by litigants. Over time the courts began to offer other services such as education and health care. The courts also acted as local police forces, being paid by local businesses to reduce crime. The ICU took on responsibility for halting robberies and drug-dealing, as well as stopping the showing of what it claims to be pornographic films in local movie houses. Somalia is almost entirely Muslim, and these institutions had wide public support. Supporters of the Islamic courts and other institutions united to form the ICU, an armed militia. In 1999 the group began to assert its authority. In April of that year they took control of the main market in Mogadishu and, in July, captured the road from Mogadishu to Afgoi.[1]

They are self-appointed. No, it doesn't matter to me. Unless someone is ready to remove them from power all we will offer is lip service. Just like Darfur.

Being covered in public and not mingling with men is a religious issue that they will have to deal with. It's not our problem.
