@hingehead,
OMFSM, I didn't realize Fielding was there til 2011. That's potentially disastrous.

@hingehead,

I'm worried that ALP will get 52% of vote and lose the election.

It's sounding very much like Greens preferences will pull Labor through, in a number of iffy seats, hinge. If one is to believe the "experts". (I always believe Antony! Wink )

Though I do relate to your less-than-confidence-inducing thoughts about our fellow voting Australians during the Howard years.

(Without Labor preferences, for a change) I seriously doubt that Fielding will be elected this time. He hasn't exactly been prominent in the campaign so far. Now won't that be something to celebrate if it happens! Very Happy

Hope the voting virgins get it right.

My hunch is that they will.

If they do maybe it's the end of gen y and the start of gen z. I was at my cousin's 21st a decade ago (coinciding with a federal election) and he was a diehard liberal supporter - or would that make him X?

@hingehead,
Not sure, hinge.

But it certainly raises doubts about his political nous (for such a young person). Wink

And if you believe the polls ...
Here's the latest one. (According to Fairfax: "biggest and the most specific of its kind"....):

Poll puts Gillard ahead - but only by four seats
Phillip Coorey
August 18, 2010/the AGE

Labor is clinging to a four-seat majority just three days from the federal election, according to 28,000 voters sampled in the most comprehensive public opinion poll undertaken in Australian politics.

The JWS Research poll, which has been obtained exclusively by Fairfax Media, shows that if the election were held last weekend, Labor would have lost 15 seats and gained six, handing it a net loss of nine seats.

Labor notionally holds 88 seats, meaning it would have been reduced to 79, a majority of four in the 150-seat Parliament. The Coalition would have 68 seats and there would be three independents.

The poll shows Labor losses looming in Queensland, NSW and Western Australia but it stands to gain in Victoria, regional NSW and South Australia.

The poll was conducted on Saturday and Sunday and is the biggest and the most specific of its kind. ...<cont>

Gruen showed the Family First ad last night. Which basically has a picture of a former leader of both parties being gunned down from behind complete with fake blood.

How American conservative; sex bad, violence good.

@hingehead,
This is just a little premature, don't you think?:

Just two more sleeps before the big day!

Any last words of wisdom before we go to the polls? Wink

@msolga,
No. Fingers crossed. Hope leaking onto the floor.

BTW - you mentioned the libs' Scott Morrison presenting well. I've seen him a couple of times now and I agree. Hopefully if the libs lose they'll do a clear out of Howard cronies and provide some untainted new faces.

@hingehead,
I think it will be the most interesting election night in a very long time. A variety of outcomes are possible, rather than the usual predictability.

That's interesting, hinge. I couldn't figure out whether he came across so well because because he was up there at that press club address with Abbott (who honestly appeared to be having problems stringing two sentences together. Maybe because he was being so cautious, on the advice of his minders?) But Scott Morrison looked like a star, by comparison. Actually that's why he was there, I think. To add a bit of credibility to the situation! Wink

Well one can hope & dream, yes?
(BTW, they are not going to win. OK? Smile )
Clearing out all that dead wood can only be for the betterment of Oz politics, across the board. I can't believe how far right those Howard years have taken us. The after effects still lingering on, in a big way. (Just look at Labor's policies during this campaign. Neutral )

And your own, personal prediction, Eorl, is ..... ? Wink

And anyone else who'd like to have a go, too, for that matter.

What does it matter if we appear very foolish on Saturday night, or Sunday morning? Smile

@msolga,
That thing you posted indicates my electorate will go to the libs. Not that the ALP encumbent is fantastic, but surely there is another choice...

And please FSM, let Arbib lose his senate spot.

I'll second that!

I'm hoping after this election that the influence of the NSW right will be ... some what diminished?
Wouldn't that be good?! Smile

Just one more sleep to go ....
And it's officially a cliffhanger. (good grief)
At the 11th hour, both sides are throwing up new policies, in the hope of persuading those "undecideds" out there.

Don't you just love this?: The Libs would look after the mining companies' profits but put welfare recipients on identity cards. Wonderful. Neutral :

Quote:
Coalition to revive identity card
Tim Colebatch
August 20, 2010/the Age

A COALITION government would revive the controversial Howard-era plan for a national access card to identify every individual receiving government benefits, shadow treasurer Joe Hockey has revealed.

On the eve of what Prime Minister Julia Gillard says will be a ''cliffhanger'' federal election, Mr Hockey has told The Age that giving everyone a single identifier for access to health and welfare benefits could lead to ''massive improvements in productivity in health and welfare''.

But instead of everyone having a card, this time the identifier could be in electronic form.

In other developments as Australians prepared to go to the polls tomorrow:

■ Ms Gillard rushed out a new policy in a bid to win the family vote, sweetening her parental leave plan with the additional promise of two weeks' paid leave for new fathers.

The Coalition revealed plans to cut a further $1.5 billion from the federal education budget, including programs to help the poorest students succeed at school and enter university. ...

@msolga,
Surely the ALP made up the Hockey ID Card thing? Or is Joe trying to push aside Barnaby as the biggest stone around Tony's neck?
