@msolga,
I've always said he wants Ban Ki Moon's job.

I'm kind of curious how/why he'll focus on foreign affairs from the back bench.

@hingehead,
Yeah you have.

Of course he could focus on his o/s contacts (quite a few of whom he mentioned in his press conference), in the hope of securing a UN job.

And I'm certain that the Labor Party (if it wins the next election ... which despite what the "experts" are saying, I believe is not an impossibility at all ...) would think he'd make a great ambassador in some important o/s post! Wink
IF he stops his undermining shenanigans in the meantime. Definitely not in the short-term, bringing about a by-election for the minority government ....

He is clearly never going to be the leader of the ALP.
He knows that now.
So he has some very serious thinking to do about his future during the next 17 or so months.

@msolga,
Hmm. So i won't go for preselection in his electorate - or he might just resign from his seat if he gets a job offer sooner, setting off a byelection, a final lash at Julia?

@hingehead,
Sadly for Labor, I wouldn't put it past him at all .... if he received a suitable offer.

Watching parliament now.
Never expected to say this, but I am very impressed with Mr Slipper! Surprised

@msolga,
Interestingly, Julia just gave Kevin a big foreign affairs plug, in response to an opposition question.

@hingehead,
Oh duh!

Of course! Embarrassed

Should be an interesting Q&A tonight ....
Or perhaps people are all popularity polled out?
One can hope!

And think of all those poor journalists who'll now have to write some real articles.
I hope they still remember how to. Wink

One thing I'll say about our journos after all this ... my respect for Barrie Cassidy has never been higher. Compared to so much of the drivel published for months now, he stands out like a beacon of sanity & integrity.
Onya Baz!

So what are people saying, hinge?

(I've been doing the AGE/SMH readers' response to National Times articles thing. Very therapeutic! Smile )

@msolga,
He'd better get over resigning in a tantrum while at work overseas if he's going to be an Ambassador.

@dlowan,
Yes, you could say that, Deb! Wink

But then,I've always seen Kevin as more of a a bureaucrat than anything else ..... more of a diplomatic, ambassadorial type than a politician.
He's not half bad at his job when not distracted by politics.
I don't think he "gets" politics at all.

Arbib resigns as minister and senator

February 27, 2012 - 4:34PM/the AGE

NSW Senator and Assistant Treasurer Mark Arbib has resigned from the ministry and the Senate.

Mr Arbib said that everyone in the Labor Party had a responsibility to help the party mend the scars of the leadership battle.

Senator Arbib - often described as one of the "faceless men" for his role in helping remove Kevin Rudd as PM in 2010 - described his resignation as a "gesture of goodwill" to the party to help it heal.

Senator Abrib, who also served as Sports Minister, said that he was also resigning from the Parliament for family reasons. ...<cont>

Even though I don't like politics, I have a sneaky suspicion that Rudd will be back...

@msolga,
Just reporting and commenting on the questions and answers like Abbott saying how can she lead the ALP when a third of the caucus don't want her - and her responding that he was voted in a majority of one and Turbull stares holes in his back every question time.

Slipper ejecting Robb and Kelly. Pyne being a tosser (as usual). The Bish jumping like Cathy to Heathcliff etc. More fun than watching it. Mrs Hinge is at home having a TOIL day and says she is speechless at the goings on.

@Procrustes,
I can't see that happening myself, Procrustes.
Not as leader of the Labor Party, anyway.
He's seriously pissed of most of the people he'd have to work with, within the government by his ongoing "campaign" of destabilization.
But anyway, we shall see ....

BTW, welcome to the thread!

@msolga,
Thanks, don't think I'd contribute much in this thread though.
