IMO, the problem with this is that there are too many possibilities.
1) Perhaps one man is significantly shorter than the other, and so the two men had different exposures to some chemical.
2) Perhaps one man has asthma or emphysema.
3) Perhaps the fainting spell had nothing to do with the odors at all, and the man recovered normally after lying down for some time.
With no way to obtain additional information, it's a rather silly pursuit.
