@TheEnlightenedOne,
It is a matter of perception. We can percieve oneness, but also separateness. Enlightenment, as I think of it, is a matter of understanding this and realizing that we are the architects of our existence.

@mark noble,
There may be 2 atoms with their components in the same position relative to their center but they can not be in the same location. Its like the number two. their ore only two or more of anything if you use a very broad definition. If you use a specific definition it is impossible to count two of anything.

The "knower" itself is in continues change and impermanent. How can a changeful entity be able to know anything about identical things? In the questions like "Can any two things be identical?" we forget the knower or the observer of the known or things being observed and we take the knower as permanent "thing". Everything changes and the knower of the known changes electron per electron. Find two idnetical"knowers or two identical "I"s" in yourself and you may find two idnetical things.

Chloe says Nostrils.
Adam says Paper and Ties.
And I say nothing can truly be exactly identical as there will always be one mishap or another.

@kavehh,
Exactly, you are consistent with Heraclitus, Nietzsche, and zen buddhism. But we must keep in mind that the practical requirements of everyday life permit us to assume identities and identifiers where they do not exist.
There is only process and impermanence. Welcome.

@JLNobody,
I don't visit this thread often, but saw your name, so peeked in. I agree with your opinion on this matter. It's how each of us perceive "everything," not just things that "looks" identical.

How can they be in the same environment?

@north,
not completely identical unless they share the same location, which would make them the same atom.

@Cyracuz,
Yes..."aboutness" or function is an essential descriptive part of the object...therefore location is of essence !

@Fil Albuquerque,
As I see it, it is very simple. As long as there is any reason whatsoever that it can be said to be two things, they are not identical. If they were, we would not be able to tell that there were two things.

@mark noble,
No. The fact that they are two things, means they are different in some way.

Still haven't settled this dilemma?

Getting too technical will never resolve this question.
