So I'm sitting around, minding my own business, and the site is down. Then it's up. Then it's down. Then it's up.
Next thing I know there are a bunch of strangers roaming around posting and kvetching.
They're posting a lot. A very active group. Philosophical types. Posting philosophical type questions. No surprise there.
The kvetching is largely because this place is new to them and not as good as their old place. I don't have exclusive rights on kvetching. I'm sympathetic.
This place and the people who populate it have been a source of great comfort to me. A source of strength and often my only contact with human beings (give or take, more or less).
It's not new to me, but it feels new. Feels different. Feels uncomfortable (a little).
I look at the New Topics list, and I don't recognize a name.
Hey, a2kers. Are you here? Are you adjusting?
Hey new people. You're a2kers too. I know you're here. Are you adjusting?
Actually, I was posting less and less over the past few weeks/months. I was reading along but, other than an occasional "hey" here and there, I rarely posted.
Yesterday, I was reminded of Phoenix's perennial summer search for intelligent discussions and wondering where all the smart folk had run off too. Someone should send her a ping -- I think she'll like the new blood.

@JPB,
((JPB)) ((Roberta))
Funny - same for me. I looked over the list and was a little confused over where all of the normal posts were. But my tag list helped and I started seeing some of the old threads pop up...it's still good old A2K.
Change is good. Keeps me from getting too complacent.

@Roberta,
It's different.
I like it.
But it takes a bit longer to find old threads and old friends.

@Roberta,
I try to do topics that are open to everyone. Love your "Beautiful Animals" thread. The picture connection is also a good one. The radio thread is open to everyone, and the Where Am I thread died because some people would NOT take their turn even when they knew the answer.
As far as philosophy is concerned, folks need to define their terms. You and I always acknowledge posters. That's another thing that we have in common.
There is a philosophy behind many things and not just the recognized philosopers of old. Poetry, for one, music for another, Roberta.

@Victor Eremita,
Hello, Victor.
I think your group will be a positive shot in the arm for this forum.
We were actually becoming a bit stale & stuck in our ways here & I think an influx of new, quite different blood, might actually be quite a healthy thing. (That's happened before, with previous influxes) I notice that a few of your philosophy members are "assimilating" into our threads. Terrific!
But I can understand Roberta's concerns, too. Over the last day & a bit our community has been rather dissipated. Your issues have dominated & our established patterns have been thrown into disarray. We have sort of lost track of each other (to some extent) as we cope with your issues in becoming part of this forum.
But you know what? I think things will settle down before too long & some of us will get to know some of you a whole lot better. And I also think that some of our established ways of communicating with each other here will bounce back, too.
Both sides are doing the transition thing here, make no mistake about that.
I kinda hope not. Things were getting mightily stale around here.
hamburgboy and I were talking about how much more fun things were here yesterday than they'd been in a long time. I think he posted more yesterday than he'd posted in weeks.
I'm from the philosophy forum. I have to say I have felt quite welcome here. Yesterday it was quite a shock and a bit odd, but I'm adjusting quite well and I like this place so far. I think I might be calling it home just as I did the philforum.
It's hard for me to post about ethics and morals, since I don't have any.
Yeah, but on the other hand, I bet you get invited to lots of parties.

If you see any wandering new members be they philosophical or droid in nature, direct them to these tutorials for a "how to" to help make them welcome:
As promised, here are the links to various topics in the new tutorial I just posted so that when needed, you can navigate directly to the information you seek rather than having to scan the entire thread for the info.
