Quote:
TIKRIT, Iraq - In a tactic reminiscent of Israeli crackdowns in the West Bank and Gaza, the U.S. military has begun destroying the homes of suspected guerrilla fighters in Iraq's Sunni Triangle, evacuating women and children, then leveling their houses with heavy weaponry.

At least 15 homes have been destroyed ...

Family members at one of the houses, in the village of al Haweda, said they were given five minutes to evacuate before soldiers opened fire.
...
Shahab stood amidst the rubble of the former home of 55-year-old farmer Omar Khalil, who was arrested shortly before the home was destroyed. The military said Khalil's son, who escaped, is one of the suspects in the downing of the Black Hawk.

Khalil's wife, Kafey, sat wailing near her wrecked house. "I have no son. I have no husband. I have no home. I will be a beggar."

It seems that...

1) People who are merely suspects are being destroyed.
So if an Iraqi hates their neighbor, they might simply tell US troops to "suspect" them.
(As was happening in Afghanistan).

2) If the suspect themself is unavailable, we destroy their family and house.
This is not terrorism on our part, but necessary because it destroys their ability to meet in another house elsewhere in Iraq.

3) The suspects are considered terrorists (for shooting down a military helicopter with a military weapon during a war), and we are anti-terrorist (while targetting civilians).

4) US Troops are being terrorized when they are attacked during a war. The fear and terror our troops experience is what should make our decisions here, because our overwhelming feeling of fear has to stop.

Quote:
On Monday, angry residents of al Haweda, where three of the destroyed homes were, said the tactic will spawn more guerrilla fighters and perhaps spark an Iraqi uprising similar to the Palestinian intifada in the West Bank and Gaza.

Your opinion?

Is all fair in love for oil, and war?
Would an Iraqi uprising be to our benefit, allowing us to push even harder?
Is terrorism just a double-speak excuse - to righteously become what we fight against?
What good will come from this?

Who in their right mind thinks the US actually fights against terror?

Do you really think that the people in Basra are not happy that the Tikrit murderers who killed hundreds of thousands of people who are not of their sect are getting their just rewards now?

Iraq is a country of tribes. Saddam is from Tikrit. His tribe is being pounded after intelligence shows where the attacks are coming from.

I say pour it on.

The cycle of violence.
The "We had to destroy the vill to save it." mentality is alive and well. Perhaps the tribes are pleased but to the world at large, this type of destruction only breeds more contempt for the Amerikan Empire. These tactics may have worked for the Roman Empire but in 2003 with mass communication at play, it will merely serve to gender more "fear and loathing" for the Amerikan Empire. Can Amerika kill a few million of it's enemies to secure itself or will the chickens come home to roost in the homeland?
