condoleezza rice making more republican friends

Rep. Curt Weldon (R-Pa.) has sharply criticized National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice for "arrogance" in a letter he sent last week to 130 of his House colleagues.
Weldon, vice chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, is furious with the White House for "pulling the plug" on a bipartisan congressiona- delegation (CODEL) trip he planned to lead to North Korea late last month, a decision he traces to Rice.
The members had been scheduled to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Il and visit the Yongbyon nuclear-power plant.
"To my knowledge, never before has support been withdrawn for a CODEL after a plane had been designated and had State Department cooperation," he wrote to a group of members involved with international issues. "Obviously, what the administration told us is not consistent with what's happening here," he said in reference to the North Korean officials in attendance at the conference.
Weldon's outburst at the administration is the latest example of strained relations between a determined lawmaker who feels it is his constitutional duty to undertake independent fact-finding and a White House that is uncomfortable with congressional involvement in tense, fragile situations
