A CASE OF CONFIDENCE
U.S. News & World Report

"He thinks about American influence and power being used for great causes, not just for marginal change."
--Condoleezza Rice, National Security Adviser, on President Bush

Autumn has brought a season of discontent, spurred by rising casualties, a growing guerrilla war, and spiraling financial costs in Iraq, resulting in an erosion of support for Bush across the board. The fall has also brought sharper attacks from his opponents and a torrent of troubling images from Iraq. This wave of negative news is generating a reassessment of Bush's presidency precisely a year before the 2004 election--and just as the campaign begins in earnest.

Will the president's audacious style of governing pay off?
