@sozobe,
That's the great ice cream place, isn't it? Get a cone for me, please, Soz.
Well, maybe next time, as you're in a hurry and I haven't checked their website if there is one. But wait, you can't go wrong with chocolate for me. A real test of ingredients.

@ossobuco,
That's the great ice cream place, yep. She just got a James Beard award! (For her book.)

Didn't get a cone, just a couple of pints to take to the next party.

I usually get one "normal" one and one "weird" one -- a shame to waste a Jeni's purchase on the mundane flavors, but not everyone likes the stranger ones. Got Backyard Mint (stupendous, so fresh) and Juniper and Lemon Curd (tried it a couple of weeks ago for the first time, my new favorite. So amazing on a hot day. And it's 90's today so...)

Incredibly soft and smooth grass-grazed cream, with a zing of crystal
clear juniper on the nose that is balanced by the taste and aroma of
handmade, sweet-tart lemon curd. Invigorating, and as radiant as a
beam of sunlight.

@sozobe,
Do I have a memory for ice cream places or what? I think you've only mentioned it once, but I must have looked it up online, cementing it in my brain.
90 here too, but a bit later in the afternoon.
Ok, I'll try a virtual lemon curd cone.

You know what this'll do, don't you - send me mooning over some gelateria websites (yet again).
Also sets me to thinking of making my own lemon curd ice cream. I'm just an amateur fool but making progress with my relatively poor ingredients.

@ossobuco,
Her recipe book is excellent, I haven't tried it yet but I know various people who have who have raved about it:

http://www.amazon.com/Jenis-Splendid-Ice-Creams-Home/dp/1579654363

I do think you need some specialized equipment, you might have that though.

I've nattered on about Jeni's many a time*, I like it both because it's awesome and because it's Columbus-based awesomeness. It's the kind of thing that I'd usually read about in the NYT as some fabulous New York City sort of place, but it's here!

*Still an impressive memory though!

@sozobe,
Oooh....I was in Washington DC on Memorial Day fifteen years ago! Doesn't seem so long ago.

Sunday May 27th 6.13 am. Woke up sometime after five am. Getting ready to get up again to make coffee and alternately reading book, news, A2k and petting squeaky cats.

Got all my housework done (despite immediate failure of brand new sponge mop, which cost $30 and which failed almost as soon as placed in water!) yesterday, though may need to do washing.

Off to book club at eleven and then to film and dinner.

@msolga,
Book? Currently Fatherland, some work stuff, Tess of the D'Urbervilles, lord knows what else. I have decided to eschew book group because I have been unwell the last few days...just a minor infection but it brought bad asthma with it....and I don't think sitting outside on a cold day having to talk loudly to be heard was quite the thing.

So I am hanging about With Cats.....doing the washing, real estate window shopping and about to have a bath.

I have forgotten the name of the film.....I'll retrieve it for you later.

Just done read up on Choice about which are the best steam mops and done bought myself one online. I just can't get my floors to dry streak free and the mopping is bad for me. You can also freshen carpets with the beast and clean other stuff. Not sure if it does windows. Also not sure when it will arrive. There seems to have been a run on the one I wanted.

@dlowan,
Ha Deb, I forgot to ask you where you'll be lunching & what you'll be eating for lunch ...! Wink Razz

Yes, do post about the film later. I haven't been to the cinema for ages.
A good recommendation might inspire me to get back into it.

I'll have to Google Fatherland, knowing nothing about it.
I've never been involved in a book club.
You recommend it? A good experience?

I must get myself moving soon!

@hamburgboy,
That is brilliant hamburgboy, you have hidden talents! Just after midday Monday afternoon in a cool Adelaide. Enjoying my toasted sandwiches covered in molten Edam cheese. Have squeezed 3 freshly picked oranges for a glass of healthy juice. A small walk this afternoon to the letter box will do me today.

@the prince,
Just fine, mate. Are you on holiday in Singapore? Been awhile since I was there, but did meet up with Mr & Mrs McT, Walter & Ulla in Hamburg last November. We were able to spend three days together; it was really enjoyable.

Blanket for Elliott
http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k46/aidan_010/IMG_2935.jpg
This is all the yarn I had left.
(Everytime I look at this picture, I think of how what happened to Trayvon could have happened to my hoodie wearing son).

It's 10:40 am on Tuesday, 5 June. I am wrapping up a blanket I finished last night for a friend's new baby. I was really sweating it at the end/doing the border as I had bought the yarn in a shop two hours away from where I live when I was visiting a friend and I thought I might have to go back for one more skein - but nope - I had just enough! Yippee!

So I'm going to wrap up the blanket and write the card, although I can't mail it because it's a holiday today-so I won't be able to go to the library either - dammit because my books are due and I wanted to check out a biography of Shakespeare and a history of Elizabeth 1 because I watched 'Anonymous' (the film) last night and it was really interesting - although totally fictional- it inspired me to read up a little more on the actual true history of the Earl of Oxford and the Cecil's and the queen and Shakespeare - all that intrigue going on at the same time- and it was even more interesting that right after watching that movie, I saw the diamond jubilee celebrations on the tv and the juxtaposition of the Tudor and Windsor family and courts was fun to think about . It was REALLY fun to watch the queen's reaction (or lack thereof) to Kylie Minogue and Madness and Elton John....she did seem to smile a little and get into Stevie Wonder when he sang 'Superstition'.

So instead of going to the library today, I'll have lunch with Jack (my 90 year old best friend) who doesn't have a tv so he won't be able to comment on the concert, although he is quite literate so we will be able to discuss the whole Shakespeare/Tudor history.
And then I'll buy some bedding plants and do my flower pots this afternoon.
I've also started another blanket, so I'll do that and I'm determined to alphabetize my cd's and download more and different stuff for my ipod.

So despite all the public services being closed - I'll make this a productive day.
