A strong ridge of high pressure set up over the state,(new mexico) helping temperatures soar to well above average.

Roswell and Carlsbad saw temperatures of 110 and 111, respectively.

7:45am here in western Ky on sunday June 6.
I am sitting here playing with my grandson because he decided to wake me up 45 minutes ago by slapping me in the face while I was asleep.

Nearing 3.35AM on 7th June 2010 in the middle of New South Wales, Australia.
Couldn't sleep so as usual have visited A2K for a bit of a browse. The nights are chilly but the days are nice and sunny. It starts to cool down around 4.30pm each day now. Won't be long before we arrive at the shortest day of the year, 21st of June I think. Tks for asking. :-)

Yesterday we found an injured bird on the patio (cat, no doubt). Brought him in the house and within half hr. the kitchen a wreck, locating things to care for this little guy, who looks like a bunting (lt. brown on wings, red head and sorta mottled yellow & green on the rest. Beautiful little feller, very small like a finch.

Couldn't believe he was still alive and well this a.m., eating birdseed and drinking water. But, his wing droops a little, can't fly properly. Husband brought home a $30 bird cage and now he's outside hanging from a tree, looking around. He doesn't tweet, cheep, or cherp but can't see why not. I sense intelligence there, he looks when I cheep at him now. Maybe a vet tomorrow. Just happy he eats by himself, so he's not a baby.

He might be a she. That would explain the absence of chirping.

10:23 am, Monday 7th June, Melbourne:

Been up for a while now, doing the usual morning things. Feeling tired from a late night. Received an SOS from a friend a bit after 9 pm. Big family problems, she was extremely upset. I was already in my nifty flannel pajamas, looking forward to a big night of reading in my warm bed. So what did I do? I threw my humongous, bulky jumper over the top of my pajamas, jumped into the car & drove over to her place. (Well it was very dark & an emergency! Razz ) A few hours of non-stop talking and she felt much better. Family can be such a can of worms sometimes, can't it?

Not the cheeriest looking day out there. Grey & cold. Melbourne specializes in long, grey winters. Very character building. Neutral

Good luck with that little bird, Pemerson.
And welcome, Drillersmum. Good to see you posting here! Smile

It was such a nice day today, quite warm with a cool breeze from the ocean.
Nonetheless, it was laundry day and the ironing had to be done too. I am
looking forward to a quiet evening with little interruptions.

5:53 pm, Monday 7th June, Melbourne:

Almost dark outside, already ..
Having a glass of wine as I chop up onions, celery, carrots, etc, etc, for a "Bolognese" sauce. I think I might add some bacon to the mix this time, just for a bit of a change. This isn't for tonight's dinner. I'll cook it very slowly on the stove top for tomorrow, plus some for the freezer. Give it plenty of time.
Tonight I'll be having a big bowl of minestrone soup, donated by my friend, C. We have a sort of informal, socialistic, food-sharing arrangement. Smile If one of us cooks too much of anything, the other gets a donation. Good arrangement! Along with the soup, I'll be having some crunchy Italian bread I bought at the market, just a short while ago. Just back from a bout of Sydney Road shopping.

@mismi,
OK, here we go, now ....

(clearing throat)

Hush-a-by, don't you cry
Go to sleep now little baby,
when you wake ....

etc, etc ...

I hope that helped, Missy. Smile

You know what I found really helpful when I had trouble sleeping? Audio books. If you you listen (to one that interests you), after turning out the lights, last thing, you'll be asleep before you reach the end of the disk. (It used to drive me nuts when I actually wanted to get somewhere with the story! Kept playing the same bit, over & over, night after night ... Laughing

But seriously, this did the trick. Why not consider it?
You'll probably be able to borrow them from your local library, like I do ...
