@tsarstepan,
How many times a month or week do you go to a movie theater tsar?

It would be easier to just say that by Friday night? I will have been 63 times to the movie theaters. Seeing Overlord (2018) this Thursday and the documentary of Jonestown: Terror in the Jungle (2018) this Friday.

@tsarstepan,
Rotten Tomatoes has Alita fluctuating back and forth just above and below 60% right now.

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/alita_battle_angel/

That's not "greatest movie of all time time" territory. But it's not terrible either. If it lands above 60% in the end it'll be labeled fresh instead of splat.

That neighborhood of 60% could change as more reviews come in. But with 140 reviews already, it should be fairly stable.

I need to decide whether to go see it in IMAX. The movie isn't in a taller aspect ratio for IMAX, but they use the taller aspect ratio for the 3D effects, allowing the things that jump out of the screen to go "above and below" the movie.

I'm probably just going to go see it locally in ordinary 3D. I'm not sure that the added effects are worth driving an hour in Michigan winter weather and paying IMAX ticket prices. But I'm still thinking about it.

This isn't really my kind of movie, but it's an interesting premise.

A struggling (failing) musician gets hit by a bus during a freak worldwide blackout. When he wakes up in the hospital he's in an alternate reality (my term) where the Beatles have never existed. He still remembers their songs though, which changes his musical fortunes considerably.

@oralloy,
I'm conflicted about this one. I love Danny Boyle but disdain jukebox musicals. The trailers do look pretty solid and it does make more sense than your typical jukebox musical (story wise). I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this one will match Boyle's other masterpieces of great movies.

Regarding the “Beatles never existed” thing.

I’d bet money that even if it was exactly the same time in history, if another person or group covered their music, they wouldn’t have any success.

I think anything like that is simply a combination of too many variables.

She loves you. Yeah yeah, sure.

FYI: It looks like a fantasy film, not science fiction.

@tsarstepan,
I see it as a romantic comedy (which is why I said it isn't my type of movie).

It looks to me like the story is going to be resolved by him getting a chance to reset things back to normal, making him choose between "a rock star life with a supermodel girlfriend" and "living as a nobody with the woman who really loves him". And of course he'll chose love so that the movie can end on a fuzzy happy note.

But who knows. Maybe I've got the movie all wrong. I'll give it a second look once more details are available.

Terminator Reboot

Produced by James Cameron
Starring Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger

Terminator (1984) and Terminator 2 (1991) are still part of the timeline.

All other Terminator movies are no longer part of the timeline.
