@Ceili,
I designed a bunch of parking lots in the Los Angeles area and in northern california over a bunch of years, and some city rules vary, as you said, Ceili - re number of spaces for x amount of footage of a store, re number of trees required, compact spaces required or not, handicap spaces, and so on. I've never run across a rule about parking for mothers and children (whatever they call that).

My own present gripe is that I'd like there to be more corrals for baskets. I hate bringing a basket to a far away corral in high wind.. just when doing that is most important, lest baskets fling themselves across lots.

The mother and children parking thing is not a rule but a company's prerogative. They own the land or lease the lots, they can make their own rules. Handicapped parking is the law.

Bill: Are you seriously stating private parking lots cannot make their own rules? In most cities Walmart allows campers to park over night, most cities do not allow over night camping but Walmart get's away with it because they own the land.. They own the parking lots they can make the rules. You can be charged with trespassing, parking fines etc. on private property. I don't think Florida is above these laws.

Victor: as I've stated... Handicapped parking is the law. Different states/provinces et al may differ but essentially they must provide this service or face fines.

@Ceili,
What your strange problem?

Handicapped parking is a legal requirement for Walmart parking lots and in my state so is having child parking places at Walmarts.

They are one and the same under my state laws and if you would like I will cheerfully post the law in question.

Seem a simple concept for anyone to understand.

@BillRM,
Read my posts again. If that's possible...
I'm not disputing handicapped parking laws, they are pretty much the same across n. america. I'm talking about courtesy parking, I can't help if you're to thick to read what I've written. If you park in a spot saved for mom and tots and your car is towed, it's pretty much your fault and this is at the discretion of the owners/lessors of the parking lot. They can have you fined et al. If Florida has made this law, good for them. Most states and provinces haven't passed this into law, but all the power to them when or if they do. Now go whine at someone else.

It is clearly not at the discretion of the parking lot owners either for handicapped parking or child/mother parking spaces.

You can not be that stupid now can you?

@BillRM,
What is so hard about understanding that laws vary in different jurisdictions? Ceili does not live in Florida. Neither do I.

By the way, you misread my earlier post, re people having not visible handicaps, and I didn't bother to reply.

@BillRM,
Listen Stupid. Handicapped parking is the law. How much clearer can I be. Mom and tots parking is not, at least in the vast majority of jurisdictions. You still have yet to prove it's law in florida.
I'm so tired of having conversations with you. Go beat your head against a thick wall, see how you like it.

@BillRM,
Pretty much what I said. The parking lot owners can designate parking however they see fit. It is not the law to designate these courtesy spots however. It's up to the owners discretion. They can have your car towed or fined. Similar to trespassing. Nuff said.

@Ceili,
Bullshit would you also care for me to give you the zoning laws that required such spaces also?

First you had claimed that I was free to park there all I desire as the signs had no force of law and now you are claiming it is not a zoning requirement that such stores as Walmart have such spaces? That they are providing them of their own free will?

You happen to be wrong in both counts the businesses such as Walmart had not choice but to provide those spaces and any driver who park in them will be fine just the same as in a Handicapped parking space.

The fine is somewhat less but that is the only different I can see between the two spaces.

@Ceili,
So once more I had proven you wrong and I am right for my area at least and I would not be surprise this is mainly the situation nationwide.

Businesses unless they enjoy paying fines had no choice in the matter either.

Side note is not the internet wonderful in it ability to get the facts?
