Which popular BBC crime series of its day began with "The Case of the Drunken Sailor"?
Did you see this series in England or the US? Can you place your viewing of it in time?
Googling its title points to one of the failures of the internet!
@sophocles,
Sounds like it could be based on a title from M.C. Beaton's books in the Agatha Raisin or Hamish MacBeth series.
By the way, how are you doing with the rest of the questions on the quiz?

@Butrflynet,
Here's another list that may help jog someone's memory. If you have the time to do so, you might also view each link for a list of episode titles to see if the one you seek is among them.

@sophocles,
I do wish you could do your own research (like the majority of us) and not spoil GBQ by asking for answers when you know that we have been asked not to on these sites.
@Butrflynet,
Thanks for your research. I highly recommend Waking the Dead. It is well acted and well written. WHile it might share a premise with the American show Cold Case, it is without the shallow moralizing and deus ex machina that completely spoils CC.
Been through The Penguin TV Companion and matched crime series to the Internet Movie Database episode lists but still no luck!
Could be a Perry Mason episode?
@sophocles,
Thinking now that it could be a BBC radio series?
@sophocles,
Here's a list of British radio shows in the crime/thriller genre:
