@vonny,

re the photographer, Michael Kenna (a favorite of mine long since) -

Michael Kenna is a pioneer in the landscape photography genre and after searching through his work online, it is very easy to see why. Controlling shutter speed, Kenna is able to get a look that is evident in all of his work. Moody, intense scenes are what his work is all about.

This one specific picture caught my attention out of the dozens of pictures he has up. Although not the most interesting of his sets, it is one that i really like. I like it because i know taking a picture like this is a lot harder than it looks. exposing for your foreground like the boat would automatically blow out your background of the mountains in the fog and exposing for the mountains in the back would probably give you a boat that was a black blob in the middle ground.

Considering that this is film, knowing your settings is vital even with a light meter.

He also uses a longer exposure to get the smoothness of the water which gives an almost mirror reflection of the mountainous peaks in the background. I also love the details of the rocks in the foreground through the shallow water near the shore; an extra small touch that gives a more in depth realistic view for the scene. All in all i think this is an amazing image that shows the expertise that Kenna was able to use when shooting all his photographs.

@ossobuco,
I see it doesn't show up - I'll try to find it elsewhere - or some other bit of his long exposure photography.

@ossobuco,
Fantastic pictures.
The one with the mountains almost looks like a painting.
Your two and Vonny´s are that type of pictures I like. You look at them, feel rested, wander deeper into the picture, your fantasy starts to wonder what is behind the corner..
There are so many pictures where I think:"Oh no, not again -...." Then there are the too perfect and then these.
Just a wonderful start of the day, which is sunny and with a blue sky.

@saab,
Not strictly a nature photograph, but lovely I think?

@vonny,
Of course it is a nature photographe as the colours are there showing a sunset and the horizon.
I like it as the person is caught doing something very interesting.

@vonny,
I am not supposed to be judging here, but I must admit this winter picture is also just in my eyes perfect. Where do you come from and where do you go in this lonely place?

@ossobuco,
That text was by Alex Marcano - I wasn't clear enough, in my post.

I have paid attention to Kenna for quite a few years. I lived in Los Angeles and used to check out a place that showed photography (well, several places, but one main one back then, Stephen Cohen gallery). I never could spring for a photo but I could buy some books... Since then he promotes (I think it's him or his firm) shows in big cities. I'm naturally less interested, liking it in its old gallery ways.

Anyway, the first I saw of Kenna's work was from areas around the san francisco bay area, a place I liked myself. (I don't remember if he showed at Cohen's gallery, but I at least read about him back then.) It's a kind of niche and I can get over it, a kind of calculated career, me being more interested in spontaneous takes and semi spontaneous takes. But Kenna's work has beauty. Beauty, many faces.

@saab,
I like that one, saab.

(I can see it, since there's a trick on the iMac that will let you see the image in another window, usually.) I think pc's have that too, but I don't remember the details.

Hmmm, now the little blue square and ? is gone (red square with x on pcs).
