My son Rhys and I hiked through the Middlesex Fells (in Massachusetts)
yesterday. Uneven ground and steep rocky downslopes are still a bit of
a challenge for him, so there was some element of adventure.

If we have time and the weather is good, I like to drag him out for a walk
on Sunday afternoons. Maybe next time we'll do a beach.

Tsar, I'll be happy to see your shots when the timing is better.

George, how old is Rhys?

That sounds perverted; just get him a Jeep with 4 wheel drive.

Rhys is chronologically 24, but he has some delays that make him appear
younger.

@George,
Good on you, George. You're a star! Smile

Just got back from a 10 kilometre walk. And I must say, I feel quite invigorated! Very Happy

I'd planned to do the Merri Creek walk (or my bit of it, anyway) today, but one look at the sky told me it was a very foolish thing to even contemplate. Big Black (forbidding) Clouds!

So I did the "under shelter" walk instead. Sydney Road again. But the interesting thing was, how quick & how easy it was to to reach Brunswick. It was VERY easy. The only things that slowed me down were those pesky folk who insist on dawdling on the footpaths. A lot of zig-zagging around them, a few near misses. Surprised

And yes, it did indeed rain. So another day for the Merri Creek.

On my way back, it occurred to me that some good, strong new runners might be a very good thing! So, after a coffee at my usual local haunt, I dropped in to the footwear shop & checked them out. A very appealing, quite expensive pair caught my eye. The shopkeeper & I are now in the process of negotiating (in a good natured way) a price. I will report back!

Damn. I just received a call as I was in the process of typing this. Tomorrow I'm working. I would love to to take an even longer walk (& even faster! Smile ) tomorrow!

Great thread, ts...

I have to start walking again. I've, temporarily, stopped playing tennis, so need to establish some other form of exercise. Some extra fitness would be good - there's a holiday in planning.

Autumn's a good time of year for walking - so I'm going to try and get into the habit of walking to work a couple of days a week. It gets too dark to walk home.

It takes 50+ minutes, some of it along the edge of the bay (part of Sydney Harbour), but some is along the dreaded Parramatta Road.

Fingers crossed. I'm afraid my descriptions won't be nearly as good as MsOlga's and my pics no patch on K's.

That's quite a walk to work! You'd have to be quite organized of a morning to do that & arrive on time.

Why is Parramatta Road a dreaded walk?

Replace footpaths with Manhattan sidewalks and that's a great deal of my walk's obstacles. Perhaps we should carry a car horn so we can <<Beep Beep>> the dawdlers!

You're allowed to haggle prices for shoes? Smile

No, not "haggle", exactly. Good natured negotiation, definitely yes!

I goes like: "the price of these running shoes is ..."

Followed by (very nicely, with a Smile ) :"Is that your best price?"

Followed by: "Hmmm, let me just check! I think we may be able to give you a discount if you pay cash ...".

Followed by: Blah, blah ...

And so on ...

It's quite common, tsar. It's considered rather silly, almost, to assume to initial asked price is what you actually pay. (By both sides) Of course, you can't negotiate at the supermarket, or at a huge department store, but all the rest, definitely! The thing is to be reasonable about it. I do this often! Smile

@tsarstepan,
Oh, OK, tsar.

Here I go again, time bewilderment. Neutral

OK, yesterday, then?

Or a plan for later on today, perhaps?

@msolga,
It rained Monday. So nope.

I should walk home after work today as the rains should only be in the morning and the evening today and we'll allegedly have a dry afternoon.

@msolga,
My ex husband used to do that with big ticket items. We had picked out a sleep sofa for his old den and he got the salesman to lower the price somewhat. He said that mass produced furniture could always be written down.

I've had some real luck with shoe sales but I have never haggled. It takes a bit of chutzpah that I don't have.
