@aidan,
Thanks, Aidan

Well - get yourself down here - the people are (reasonably) friendly and speak English!

Your pictures, (and Izzy's) always make me want to spend more time in England - just passing though again this year on the way to Scotland (again) and then on to Prague.

@aidan,
Now I want to travel again.

There is something beautiful about culture, and there is something beautiful about old buildings and for me, Churches....

@FOUND SOUL,
Yes - I love architecture too - especially churches, so this was a beautiful trip for me. I love Spain - I think after England, it's my favorite European country- the cities and the countryside are just intriguing. And my experience has been that the people are lovely. I'm so sad to read about what's happening there right now-but so glad I got to go. I plan to go again next year and do another leg of the jouney.

@aidan,
Kind of makes me think of "old worldly souls" Smile .. I have to wait for my darling animals first to well, you know.. Then we will be off and running, so much to see .

I have a Spanish, Irish, English and Sweedish background... But 3 generations Australian, somehow I think that, I'm a bitsa Smile

@aidan,
Beautiful photographs, aidan.
If only most of our walks were like that!

Just curious:
How many of us are still walking?
I must confess I've lapsed.
Who knows why? In my case I blame the cold of winter. But if I really wanted to ....?
But I do hope I get back into it.
All that past walking made me feel really good!

Are you still walking, tsar?

@msolga,
msolga,

I am like you 2 degrees in the morning Shocked We walk our dogs for 10 minutes shivering but we know the want it, need it and so we do it... The beach is 5 minutes away, I can not wait until the weather picks up, I love walking the beach, picking up shells, walking barefoot in the sand, smelling the ocean and watching the waves.. Dreams are made of this Smile

@msolga,
Thank you msolga. That WAS a very special walk for me - I'll have to wait another year to have another like it - although I am spoiled in terms of the beauty here in England that's just right on my doorstep.

@FOUND SOUL,
Well at least your dogs are keeping you on the straight & narrow, FS.
But I have no excuse at all for turning into a winter blob!
If only my cat required walking!

No. I've lapsed from long distance walking.

One part is that I've been buying weekly unlimited MTA (subway) cards so I feel guilty not using them as much as possible.

Two: I have a really cheap gym membership. Now that I'm completely settled into my new address I'm going to try my new branch here in Brooklyn.

Three: I haven't tried walking from work to my new address just yet. Maybe on the weekend, I'll walk around my new neighborhood to get the lay of the land.

@tsarstepan,
You have a new home, tsar? Surprised
Good going, so far?
I really hope so!

And you have gym membership! Surprised
Wow.

I hope you do take that first walk from home to work (or the other way around) soon. Also the walk around your new neighbourhood. With your camera. I'd love to share what you see in your new territory!

@tsarstepan,
I know what you mean about buying the unlimited cards. You go, lettssseee.....$29.00 divided by $2.25 is about 13. I MUST take at least 14 rides this week,,,,,hmmm, at least two a day to go to work, that's 10...WHERE do I have to go for the other four??? Think. Think.

A trip to work, then one to the Park and then one home each day makes it easy, IF I am running every day which I am not. (Coming close though)..

I've trotted across the Queensboro Bridge three or four times. Not a pretty walk except for some views up the East River. I'll see if I can move some of the pictures from my Facebook page to over here.

The Brooklyn Bridge is better but everybody seems to be on it all the time.

And they don't walk.

Midnight in Basingstoke on New Year's Eve - street in front of the homeless shelter I volunteer at and then next morning, first setting moon of 2013 and first sunrise of 2013. Happy New Year!

@aidan,
Can't believe I missed your Camino photos - brought back some nice memories.

Particularly this:

Which if I'm not mistaken is on the hills above Astorga - hunting for my version...

there it is!

@margo,
Probably somewhere Margo - but that's so 2006 Wink

Better I should rave about the walks in Portugal last year. We did a week walking south along the Alentejo coast which was stunning (and people-less) followed by a week zipping between inland and coastal Algave also pretty stunning, but in a different way.

Will have to go through and select some photos for sharing. Bloody digital cameras mean there are literally thousands!

We also did a couple of single day hikes up in the mountains of Serra da Estrela which was freaking amazing in early summer - completely deserted, great views, wildflowers, easy walking and a bar restaurant on a lake with no-one but the owner's dog for company.
