@ossobuco,
there is a one lane dirt road that goes up to the top of the plateau from the paved road at the bottom that runs along west creek on to the village of Gateway which is on the Delores River. Up on top you do a lot of hiking/climbing/walking.

In the 20 years that I did this walking I encountered one other person; a woman probably in her 50's carrying a backpack and singing, we said hello as we passed on the trail.

So you lived for twenty years of your life without any other human contact. That is incredible to me. Didn't you get lonely? What was the impetus for the decision to do that?

@littlek,
When I walk around the river, I always wear lightly tinted, wrap-around sunglasses just for the midges. That way, you only have to avoid breathing and swallowing.

@tsarstepan,

used to occasionally walk home from work back in my nyc days --
bleecker street ---> 114th street.
~ 5 miles, i think it took me under 2 hours.
did NOT stop for souvlaki, but i would grab a beverage at about the halfway mark (64th & B'way)...

@Region Philbis,
That's an encouraging sign for me to keep up the trek on a weekly basis if the weather is right. I plan in getting a reusable bottle and fill it up with water before I leave work.

@dyslexia,
What an impressive area of walking grounds. A great place for a personal walkabout. Do you however carry protection from any malicious/marauding pumas, etc...?

@tsarstepan,
I really like this new thread, tsar.

Back later on & talk a little about my own (city/inner-suburban) walkings.

Gotta cook dinner & eat now.

Dys, what spectacular country! Just takes my breath away!

@tsarstepan,
Sounds pretty good to me!

So are you walking to work today? Or is that a bit much of a morning?

@msolga,
Right now, I'd rather walk from work to home then vice versa. It's more leisurely and not time imperative (I don't want to get to work late). Also getting up extra early? Blechh!

@tsarstepan,
Oh I can understand that, tsar. (Not being a super duper dynamo person in the mornings, either ...)

But, I must say I envy you very much, whatever time of day you walk. The idea of a long walk through the streets of NYC in spring time. <Sigh> I'd just love to be able to do that!

@msolga,
Oh I've been doing a lot of walking for quite a while now, so most of my tales are urban ones. Here are two recent ones.

1 - I was walking in Boston on 3/17 and of course there were plenty of folks dressed for the parade. Including one confused chap in a Celtics shirt and a kilt. Hmm.

2 - A part of walking, for me, often involves walking to and from public transportation. I was waiting in the Central Square T stop and there was a charming violinist. Couldn't quite place the tune until he hit the chorus. It was Rosemary Clooney's "Mambo Italiano":

i go for an hour walk every evening, i listen to a podcast, because it's talking i can still here nature sounds

i check out the woods behind my house a few times a year

some interesting walking chatter can be found here http://radioghost.com/, the "walking with sean" podcasts are interesting, although when i mentioned to the podcaster how much i enjoyed it he responded thusly

@Sherwinsleeves @djjd1962 my sense is that its verging on being the most supremely dull thing ever recorded Smile

I walk through the city all the time. I've walked the 59th street bridge several times. I have also walked across the Williamsburg Bridge, the Brooklyn Bridge, and the Triboro bridge. The best one so far in my opinion is the Triboro. The walkway is much scarier than the other ones. The first time I walked it I actually had to stop once or twice to stop from freaking out. It's a thin walkway. Barely enough room for two people. Awesome, in other words.
