The first thing I thought (beyond the horrible sofa's) about Rush's apartment was "Why is the wonderful view not being exploited?

That's a huge selling point.

I think that room screams out for something that will let sit and gaze out at the city. Something like this...

You could enjoy comfort, the fireplace and the view.

That gawd awful blue bedroom with waikiki beach painted on it? I'd present that small little bedroom as a sitting room.
If you wanted to keep that stupid mural, you could have it be a little tropical paradise room. Put some bamboo crap in there. You'd have to keep the door closed from the rest of the house of course.

Those were exact my sentiments too, djjd! Even Elton John's house in
L.A. looks more masculine, and he's openly gay.

Your tastes--I'm talking to you--have been compromised by years of living among the furnishings of Crate and Barrel and Ikea. Perhaps you'd rather Rush's bed were made with wooden screws and called a Lunghuphregen--hahahahahahahahaha! You would, wouldn't you!

Whereas I realize the penthouse's decor is of the most refined taste. Unlike you, I would know how to live in such a place. Yes, I would blast Handel, mincing around in my powdered wig, pinching my nipples.

@farmerman,
Seriously. Does that look like a space in which interesting conversation occurs? No. It's where resentful heirs drink too much gin and divide a dead relative's posessions.

Anyone ever see Donald Trump's Penthouse? It looks like the interior of a Faberge egg - all veneered in gold and very shiny. It also has a great view and you can see it from almost every direction because of all the mirrors.

Yeah, that's why I described the changes I'd make....take away the overdone molding, the angel in the snow, 2 of the fussy chairs, add some colors to make the place look like people live there....rethink that wrought iron railing while you're at it, oh, and those tribal dildos on the coffee table can go..
It could be a much nicer room if it was simplified.

Less is more

Yes, it was there, right next to the shower.

Gus has been away for a while. Amigo recently started several excellent threads that were screaming for an opinion from Gus. I am surprised Gus did not come back sooner.

Interesting view into his tastes, or at least his decorator's.

So I tried to remember some elaborate decor I found fitting and remembered Nureyev's Paris apartment photo - it was shown as the cover for Architectral Digest back in 1985.

Architectural Digest, September 1985
Interiors by Emilio Carcano
Photographs by Derry Moore
Original text by Lee Radzwill

Let's see if the link will work http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_jfMkW5ejZvE/SZIcQvFtWYI/AAAAAAAAFJQ/7eGviXzZGaI/s1600-h/sc01ad1979.jpg

Well, it does if I click on it (for a PC, select properties and show image, I think; for a mac, click on control and select image in new window.)
Otherwise it can be chased down on google image/rudolf nureyev paris apartment architectural digest 1985 - it's the second photo

I disagree with dj's implication about Limbaugh having gay taste. Most gay men would commit seppuku before living in such decor. Nureyev's style is a good example of good, expensive and gay taste.

@Green Witch,
I just helped furnish a dressing room for an openly gay musician, and it looked nothing like that.

(it was very gay, though)

@ossobuco,
I think that second one is the place, GW.. but not the exact wonderful photo. It's so him.

I have the photo saved in one of my notebooks, but my notebooks aren't all in the house, some still in garage.. thus I can't easily scan it.
There was another one of him in one of his exotic retreats, Barbados or somewhere similar.

@Green Witch,
I agree with you on that. Not that all gays have fabulous taste but lots of my male friends who are do. It's not at all always what I have been calling foofoo though, can be very cool.
