@ehBeth,
I was called back on the 66 toronado tonight as I left the orph.

I went back to look at it to lowball him with a bid. (my cash is limited at the moment)

I can't do it.

too crusty in scary spots...

and my camera lost batteries on the first shot.

but I put my finger in the number one spot for the torino.

and his toronado buyer might call me for metalwork...

@Rockhead,
Your RE agent was deer hunting this morning, if you can believe it.

We're getting a cold snap here as well. The high is only going to be 55 this weekend. Brrrr!

@Ticomaya,
You'll be able to show off your winter clothing then Tico. That long hot summer with unbroken blue skies stuff is a bit monotonous. I had a year and a bit of it and and getting back home to cold driving rain was such a relief that I kissed the tarmac.

Perhaps some of your forbears come from equatorial regions.

I bet you never get the pleasure of warming your frozen hands in front of a log fire. And no electric blankets.

@spendius,
I actually still have a ton of "winter" clothing that would be appropriate for back in Kansas. However, "winter" clothing in Arizona, for me, consists of a jacket.

My forebears do not come from equatorial regions. Quite the opposite, in fact.

No, one's hands do not get frozen in Arizona.

@spendius,
I've never had any complaints on my cooking.

I have better things for a lady to help me with than dinner.

pub food has you cranky again...

@ehBeth,
chasing shadows a little bit, as to gluten.

what exactly is "modified food starch"?

it seems to show up sometimes as a possible culprit when I go looking for what bit me...

@Rockhead,
it could be potato starch, or corn starch, or wheat starch, or any number of things. No way of knowing from the label.

From WebMD
Quote:
Reading ingredient labels carefully and being aware of types of hidden gluten. Gluten can be in things like medicines, vitamins and other nutritional supplements, lipstick and lip balm, and various food additives. Products whose labels have the phrase "modified food starch" or "hydrolyzed vegetable protein" may contain gluten.

edit: this is interesting…
Quote:
Starch modifications can improve a food’s ability to withstand cooling, heating, freezing and defrosting. Modifying a starch by pre-gelatinizing it is how instant puddings can become thickened with only the addition of cold milk, without cooking it. Acid-treating or oxidizing certain starches can change the starch molecule to lower its viscosity. Roasting some starches along with the addition of hydrochloric acid produces dextrin, which can increase crispness of commercially-produced foods. These are just a few of the many modifications that can be made to food starches to change them molecularly.

Although any food starch can be modified, in the United States all modified food starches are gluten-free unless made from wheat. Barley and rye starches are not commonly used. Because of recent food allergen labeling requirements, in the United States any product that uses wheat starch as the basis of its “modified food starch” must list the ingredient as “modified wheat starch” or some similar wording that specifies the product’s wheat-based origin. Alternately, you may find the mention of wheat in the package’s allergen warning. If the product simply says “modified food starch” and has no wheat allergen warning, it is derived from a gluten-free source. The most common sources include corn, potato and tapioca.

Sounds like a way to make food into non-food.
