@Rockhead,
Just curious, what is the likelihood of a genuine US twister where you are and what precautions do you need to take ? We see them on the news and have a lot of little ones here, but nothing really big like the US.

@Ionus,
I am dead center in what I perceive tornado alley. south central kansas.

grew up here. not scared. not stupid.

you know when they are possible. you watch the skies in the spring, and you ALWAYS know where shelter is. or isn't.

If it's gonna happen by surprise, then ...it happens.

and never live in a mobile home. period.

I love storms.

but I respect them.

I don't have a basement, but my friend 3 doors down has my name on a shelter seat, and I maintain the batteries for her...

@Rockhead,
Oz is so boring ! No volcanoes, no earthquakes, no tornados, nothing! nada ! zip ! zero ! zilch ! Just the odd cyclone in the north...and 10 year droughts that last for a surprisingly long time. And floods, lots of floods..a quarter of the country is flooded at the moment or cleaning up from floods..but thats it.

I got hailed on (Phoenix of all places) just last week...it was a heck of a racket and afterwards it looked like it had snowed in my backyard.

You got hailed on in Phoenix? What part are you in?

@Ionus,
I know, but it was the only place left. (you guys will catch up with the rest of us one of these days)

America got all the good stuff...

(and then the white guys took it, but that is another chapter, too)

@mm25075,
Really? The weather here is amazing. I live 30 miles or so east of there, but we didn't get a bit of it. Rain, yes ... hail, no.

@Ticomaya,
A true oddity indeed it was, so much that I could do nothing but watch as my street nearly flooded out despite the great drainage sewer. But like most AZ storms it was over just as quick as that.

I've heard of different weather patterns in various parts of the Valley. Sometimes Mesa will get hit with terrible storms when we get nary a sprinkle.
