@Rockhead,

Quote:
Flea Control: Organic Beats Toxic! Cheaper Too!
In a nutshell:

1) don't panic!

Fleas are nothing more than a minor nuisance. Panic can lead to poisons for you and profits for the panic mongers.

2) keep a paper thin layer of DE (diatomaceous earth) wherever a vacuum cannot reach

3) vacuum once every three days, tossing a little DE on the floor first

4) if you have a pet:

flea comb every three days (every day if fleas are found)

wash bedding every three days

5) do not use toxic gick!

No flea bombs, no boric acid, no borate powders (and this definitely includes the fleabusters product), no flea collars, no pyrethrins.

Now for the verbose details ...

This one says pretty much the same thing as that one does verbosely, but with a lot less words:

At one time I had 4 cats at one time and kept the fleas at bay by putting branches of fresh eucalyptus trees under the bed, under and behind the sofa and in the closets.

A very fine-toothed flea comb also works wonders but you have to use it religiously and have a bowl of soapy water handy to fling the trapped fleas into so they don't just rebound to a new location. It takes a few tries to get the cats used to it too. Just do a little each day, lengthening the duration of the comb job a little each day until they aren't resisting it anymore.

@Rockhead,
I bet you save a fair bit of money growing your own veggies. Nice and fresh, too.

Unfortunately, we don't really have that option.

No, not in the past 3 weeks, or so.

My last one was for a "slots / bingo attendant" at a gaming place.

In the meantime, I have sent out numerous resumes to more jobs, but the phone hasn't been ringing, unfortunately.

Today, I emailed a resume for work at our local The Source (an electronics outfit).

I must admit I'm feeling quite a bit more desperate than I did since I left my last job (April 2009). I keep saying somethings got to work out, but suppose it doesn't?

I'm applying for a lot more jobs that I wouldn't have thought I would have done so, a year ago, like:

cashier at a gas station
dishwasher
food prep work

And still, nada. Sad

I've been picking some raspberries (var. younberry) lately. We get 2 crops a year. spring and autumn. The autumn crop is less but still nice to go out and pick a small handfull each day. also got a broccolini starting to head up. Been picking spinach for a week or so.
Not much else edible coming from the garden at this time of year

I'm going to go collect for a brake job tomorrow, and buy some frontline. (it works)

went to town with Smoky today. got vinyl to put down on the new floors I am putting in.

stopped and got tacos from the old roadside stand I used to frequent. Smoky got some too. makin' beans and rice here for a fiesta meal.

added the first of my japalenos from the farm.

jeez-o-pete they are fiery hot. got some on my face and damnit man...

oh well. beats the water flavored mild ones I grew last year.

also got a flat of vincas for my patio planter. 1/2 price sale in the heat.

gonna be busy here at the ranch tomorrow, i hope...
