when I came out to find smoky this morning, he was out on the front deck talking to our neighbor lady.

she was amazed at the hanging baskets that are flourishing in 110 degree heat.

I went out back and got her a portulaca and a purslane and helped her pot them tonight. (with a towel in the bottom)

she loaded us up with squash and tomatoes...

@ehBeth,
that little old lady is better than a security camera.

she gets tag numbers and car descriptions if she is not familiar with the visitor...

ok...

got all my woodworking and sheetrock tools and equipment stowed away, and set back up in bodywork mode.

uncovered the vert and worked the hood out in preparation for epoxy primer.

gonna try and do something on it every night from here forward...

and saved myself a big fight with smoky.

I waited until he went to bed, then attacked the pantry with a vengeance.

tomorrow is trash day, and the cupboard now has only edible food in it...

heart doctor appointment tomorrow.

afternoon.

on the far side of the big little city...

For my hanging baskets, which are successful, I line the bottom with plastic, a folded bag will do, so it makes a shallow dish not more than about one inch deep.
Then the moss, to line the sides, then the compost to fill the basket.

That works a treat. It's easy for me to get the moss, I rake it out of my grass.

@McTag,
these are cheap wally's baskets lined with cheap moss and a little sheet of plastic. the towel just gives a little help in wicking up some moisture...

I'm over to mr vw's for a bit.

smoky's appointment was yesterday. (I didn't look at the letter, just trusted him to have read it correctly.) so they are working him in...

then we hafta stop at wally's for groceries.

I finally put my foot down about his car.

the crispy kid has 3 times vetoed me coming to pick it up. (he uses it to go buy booze)

tonight mr vw is gonna come get me and we will go pick it up.

it gets 30 miles a gallon, and is much easier for smoky to get in and out of...

I'm almost hoping the kid decides to bitch about it.

Ima open a can of firkem up on him...

makin smoky a pizza. and some cottage cheese and tomatoes.

this way if I'm dead when I return, I don't have to fix him something while he bellows about being hungry.

I'll prolly have some cold leftovers late if I find an appetite...

my day has caught up with me and dragged me down from behind.

Ima hafta crash with cards still on the table.

just hafta pick up tomorrow where I fell down today.

this oppressive heat is kicking my ass.

and I can't get back on the night shift to save my soul...

I hope to finish the tub tomorrow.

it's crazy how hard it is to find hardware these days.

I went 3 places looking for #8 oval head phillips screws, being flexible on length.

lotsa blanks stares and wrong answers. (no 8-32 is not the same thing)

finally got a "home hardware kit" from wallys for $6 with a buncha **** I'll likely never use and hafta store...

15 screws should have been less than a buck.

and they are not stainless.

oh well.

he'll kick off before they rust away...

@Rockhead,
You're a good guy, Charlie Brown.

When it is done, give yourself a lump day to recharge your body.

@ehBeth,
huh???

I think you underestimate the effects of having to try and function in 105 degrees day after day...

I've been a night bird since I was 12.

being able to leave the horrible home environment at 3 or 4 in the morning and wander the city (albeit just a small portion of it at that time) throwing newspapers and thinking clearly as just myself was probably what saved my life...

I have GOT to start stringing some hours together in the shop, or Ima get sued. the vert must go soon.

and I desperately need to make a bit of money instead of having to argue with smoky to get a little to take care of my necessities...

@ehBeth,
yes, I got his chrysler.

he wants me to fix the air. (his worthless grandson ran over the well head and buggered the condenser)

the whole plastic bumper nose has to come off to do it.

it will work before it gets hot next year...

I can make my truck air work for $75 and an hours work. I just don't have it right now...

I didn't get my normal night watering cycle in, and my garden is starving.

moving a sprinkler as I can now. too much sun in some places still...

gonna go open some industrial sized caulk tubes and get busy finishing a bathroom overhaul on a $150 budget.

@Rockhead,
I can barely manage 70 degree days. I hate the heat. I despise humidity.

That being said, working/living night shift hours are rough on the gut and life expectancy (rotating shifts are even worse).

http://cupe.ca/health-and-safety/night-shift-workers-health-risk-ubc

Quote:
CUPE has produced a fact sheet on shiftwork that explains how working abnormal shifts disrupt the body’s circadian rhythms and leads to a variety of adverse health effects for workers, including:

Disruption in quality and quantity of sleep resulting in chronic fatigue

Anxiety and depression

Increased risk of cardio-vascular disease

Increased risk of gastro-intestinal disorders

Shorter life expectancy compared to regular dayworkers

I know you're right - you've got to protect your income base. Just don't want you to injure yourself while doing that.

@ehBeth,
I'm sure that working outdoors in Kansas is bad for life expectancy as well.

gotta pick my poisons.

I find the nighttime to be very peaceful and calming.

that is good for my gut...

off to caulk and cook dinner.

pork sloppy joes.

and steamed asparagoose.

got smoky fed.

gonna boil some eggs for my salad later.

all of the tileboard is caulked.

now I gotta put the stainless trim back around the tub edge. gonna fill it up with caulk and let it spooge out when I screw the pieces to the wall.

trailer construction is kinda funky, but I'm putting stuff back more solidly than it was originally built.

you hafta...
