whilst rummaging through mr vw's pantry yesterday to make something interesting for dinner, I stumbled across a jar of tahini.

anybody wanna offer up a use or recipe?

I'm assuming it is for use in indian food.

(not cherokee...)

@Rockhead,
hummus

mashed chick peas and a bit of warm water, tahini, flavorings (salt, pepper, lemon, garlic, herbs, whatevah), olive oil. Whir it all up together into a paste.

tahini dressing
three acids (I usually use lemon juice, red wine vinegar and balsamic or apple cider vinegar), 1tsp dijon mustard (or spicy brown mustard), s&P to taste. dried or fresh herbs if you want. stir everything together and then slowly wisk in tahini instead of oil (about the same amt of tahini as acids).

edit: I've been eating tahini dressing over bean salad (red and white beans with chopped cucumber, tomato, onion, celery, carrots)

@Rockhead,
have you got any leafy greens you like? spinach/kale/bok choy/collards ...

@JPB,
it is something I will hafta do over to mr vw's.

smoky is way too meat and taters for anything that radical.

I'll keep it in mind as the budget increases...

been cleaning out his pantry, throwing away food that spoiled in 2004.

he wants bratwurst on the grill tonight.

with home fries and a salad.

and a bit of cantaloop...

@ehBeth,
much like bob, smoky would sooner shoot me than eat tofu.

it's a principle thing, I think...

I have another question...

smoky desperately needs some new teeth.

a lot of his swallowing trouble starts with ill fitting, false teeth.

will medicare help do something for him, or are teeth not part of good health?

@Rockhead,
It depends on what Medicare plan he has. If he has the basic plan, I don't think teeth are covered.

@Roberta,
thank you.

he has a supplemental policy of some sort that we didn't find out about until after the whole thing was done.

they (blue X) denied that he had a policy until confronted with bank records. kinda ugly really...

not sure exactly where that might still help with the teeth.

I think Ima go in for a clinic visit soon, and talk to them about smoky while they are earning my $50.

@Rockhead,
I can look into the teeth thing for you. I have connections.

I am kidney stone free. Thank GOODNESS! Very Happy

Apparently drinking water from the faucet in our area is not wise. It is full of calcium and lime because of all of the limestone. So it can cause problems as some folks get older. ugh.

Anyway. Shew.

Very Happy

@mismi,
drinking water from the faucet in most locations is risky business.

even as a peon, I have been drinking bottled water for many moons...

glad you are free from them.

I gotta go sand smoky's bathtub.

ugh...

@mismi,
my hometown is known as

they know from stones there

I remember, as a candystriper mumblemumblemumble years ago, running into lots of friends and family as they visited family in hospital - having stones surgically removed.

@ehBeth,
I can already see how tomorrow is gonna be...

I was sanding his tub, to get it ready to apply a fiberglass patch tomorrow morning, and used a little rubbing alcohol to clean the adhesive leftover from the duct tape he used to try and seal the crack. Rolling Eyes

when he hollers out from the other room, "I thought you weren't gonna start that crap till tomorrow, turn on the exhaust fan..."

I can't wait until he gets a whiff of the real ****.

I'm thinkin' we may hafta go shop at wally's in the A/C for a while until it clears out...

wheeeeeeeee.

fiberglass is best used in a well ventilated area.

right.

so I have a little extry buzz working right now...

mr vw called.

said he was talking to a kid works at the parts store, and gave him my number.

before I could question his sanity, he told me why...

he has an old volvo of some sort, but canno find anyone brave enough to go in and rebuild the dual carbs.

I am kinda sorta famous for being afraid of very little...

now I gotta decide what it's worth.

the only guy so far that would consider it starts at 5 bills.

I'm thinking $250 plus parts, and I will synch them for him when I install them...

we'll see if he is serious if he calls...
