@farmerman,
I was talking with grampa Jack, my friend D's dad, and he said he mostly has trouble with rats.

I don't think we have any rats. we have lots of cats. and no grain or other rat enticing substances. (he has a real farm. big tractor, combine, the works)

I'm most worried about the fox that lives in my east woods...

@farmerman,
hmmmm.

not one of them around, to my knowledge.

lotsa drink beer and go shoot stuff types...

I'm going to ask the guy down at the extension service first.

I have some rusty old traps. I just don't know if I want to be involved in its demise.

I'm kinda leaning toward just plowing under the burrow...

@farmerman,
I kinda feel a brotherhood with the fox.

much like an attorney would balk at fishing for sharks, I think...

it's 7:30.

now I can run a saw and not wake my neighbors.

at least not the ones closest to me...

and there is a south wind.

North of me is all vacant for a half mile...

then I'm ready for bed.

no goats.

maybe a welding job for Leonard...

watching that Morgan video got me to cogitating.

I wonder if I could take a crashed harley and build a morganesque modern trike.

with the duals out front, and some cool coachwork on the cockpit...

I'll wait until I stumble across some parts before I get serious, but something to file away and chew on.

mowed smoky's yard. cut down the evergreen stump that was in my way. trying to find my tordon to kill it off for all eternity. (it's under the porch)

gotta find some more energy if Ima get much done tonight.

I think Ima dig out for the concrete pad that will be at the base of the ramp.

got 6 bags o' ready-mix left for that porpoise...

I think I am all caught up with my watering. and it's not even dawn yet...

I will still hafta make a round before bedtime, but I can turn the sprinkler off and quit running back and forth to the garden for now.

gonna go hunt for screws. if I don't have any short ones, I may be done when I get the pad dug out. (I'll be real glad when all the digging is done. I'm verra tired of dry hard dusty soil...)

D's grandson came over to look at a go-kart I told him he could use.

when I told him I was getting ready to work all night on the deck, he looked at me like I was from mars.

then he went back to drooling over the kart.

his parents haven't decided yet if he can have it...

gone about as far as I can go without another trip to the lumber yard.

but it's starting to look like what it is.

then I will build a lattice screen so it doesn't look like what it is.

so some stranger driving down the highway doesn't say "hey. a disabled person lives there, let's go steal from him..."

Ima hafta shower and crash real soon.

outta gas this morning...

@Letty,
I'd come help you miss letty betty, but the mileage would be a bit tough.

you need a guy like bob and diane had. he could do most anything around the house...

urf.

feeling less than today.

overdid yesterday, methinks...

was gonna go to town and get the rest of the decking brackets I need. and return 2 12 foot posts that were ****. I hate it when they don't sort the lumber. #2 my ass...

anyways, I think Ima go tomorrow morning at 6. the day crew is much more friendly and professional than the night kids.

so I am gonna cut all of my pieces and number them for assembly tomorrow night. and then turn my attentions to the shop. and wiring in my new compressor so I can sandblast.

my plan is to switch over and keep doing the 10 hour night shift thing on the vert so I can be free of it.

and start on new good paying projects that are waiting in the wings.

one not very patiently...

welp...

I'm outta brackets and screws.

but the porch is really starting to look nice.

and it's solid as hell...

gonna get all my stuff together to go shopping at the lumber yard tomorrow, and unload the rest of the concrete outta my truck.

then Ima go start working in the shop...

I was just getting ready to post about some of the things that are essential for working alone in the dark.

like always setting your pencil in a lighted spot, and routing cords so they don't grab your feet in the dark.

when I did something really dumb...

I had put some scrap plywood on the boxed frame so I could walk on the deck and work on the upper structure. (my poles are trying to twist in the heat) and I put a piece on the ramp to walk up there.

the ramp piece moved as I hit it, and it flipped up and dropped me through the cross bracing. pinning my left leg with me still off the ground.

thought I broke it.

I don't think so now, but we will know more in a coupla hours. it will either numb out, or start hurting like a mofo...

if it's broke, I'll have to cut it off. no hospital visits in the budget right now. or ever...

I'm pretty sure I will walk away from it.

but I stopped and immediately screwed that piece to the studs.

stupid stupid stupid...

I had my neighbor check to see if he could hear my saw from inside his house. nope.

so I have been sawing at will.

but I could scream for all I'm worth, and nobody would hear me.

a sobering thought...

gonna go walk it off.

and hunt for something flexible to use for a concrete form.

Ima play with ii and make a cool curvy slab instead of a boring box of concrete.

got some cool twists in mind for the upper structure as well. gonna play with the saw and make some box joints overhead, then we can make a canvas cover for it...

I'm getting my forms all set up for my curved rising pad.

using lawn edging for my curved corners...

gonna pour it after I get up tonight. in the cool darkness...

s'posed to be 104 on Wednesday.

I'll prolly hafta wake up and spray it down to keep it from cracking. heat makes it want to set up too fast.

but it's gonna look custom cool...
