@Droid Motorola,
In my opinion, Android would release the 2.0 SDK well before the OS was released to end users. If the Droid is due out Oct 30 or Nov 6, I doubt it will hit stores with Android 2.0 because developers wouldn't have time to update their apps before the release.

I'm sure it will run 2.0, but probably won't come out with anything later than 1.6.

@rtech,
There seems to be already developers working with android 2.0 sdk for many months now.

Google has been working with verizon and motorola behind the scenes so its hard to tell. They also want the android system to make a big impact, what better way than to create a huge exclusive buzz. I can see them making the droid exclusive with 2.0 and releasing 2.0 public in a week or two after the droid is released. Im sure the big companies already have their hands on 2.0 sdk.

@Droid Motorola,
Ok, now I'm a lil fuzzy on this android 2.0. Is this the web OS? Does this mean lightning fast internet?

No, it's not the web OS. It is the OS of the phone itself.

And to end the speculation in this thread, I've heard from several who have already been using this phone that it does have and will ship with Android 2.0 Eclair. In fact, the unit that BGR received is running it as shown here:
