This may not be the best cover of Red House although I like the guitar work. I went to high school with the guitarist for one year. HE was a corporate CEO who became a professional musician after he retired.

The Hollie's first 45 was a cover of a Coasters B-side. (Ain't That) Just Like Me.
Bummer I can't find the Coasters version.

As you can hear, "I Saw Her Standing There" had a big influence on British bands.

I hesitate to say that this cover is better than the original, but I really love this:

technically, I'm not sure which is cover, Beatles or Stones, for "I Wanna Be Your Man", since McCartney wrote it but Stones recorded first. Anyway, Stones version is definitive IMO.

@panzade,
It is the same chord progression--and at the time I liked Jethro Tull much better then the Eagles--

My opinion of Hotel California by the Eagles was it never seemed to end, but that feeling about the song changed the first time I saw the Great Lebowski.

Since then I've become a Dudeist.

@raprap,
speaking of chord changes, how many tunes have Louie/Louie chords? notable ones, to me anyway, are:

La Bamba
Twist & Shout
Sweets For My Sweet
Wild Thing
Hang On Sloopy

@yitwail,
Twinkle Twinkle Little Star is a common theme in much classical music.

@raprap,
Well, i had fun researching original lyrics to "Ah! Vous dirai-je Maman". Never did realizie it's also the ABC song. But not sure how it relates to Louie, Louie.

Quote:
Ah! Vous dirai-je Maman
Ce qui cause mon tourment ?
Papa veut que je raisonne
Comme une grande personne
Moi je dis que les bonbons
Valent mieux que la raison.

I was once an Ian Anderson fan. However, after seeing an old tape of Anderson chatting with Letterman when all three of us were around 35, I was totally turned off to the flutist. I thought him insolent and snobbish. I found the song by Jethro Tull boring, although I still love several Tull songs and have a few on some of my youtube playlists (around 50 and counting).

I always found Hotel California bombastic but the Gypsy Kings rule! Great cover and much better than either original.

@Rockhead,
I always forget how much I love Marvin Gaye's voice. Thanks for posting that - I hadn't heard that version before.
