I'm usually a renew/recycle person but there is something to be said about buying new -- it keeps people working and that's pretty important right now. In fact, one of the reasons the bathroom(s) remodel(s) are being leapfroged is because some of Mr. B's loyal clients do this type of work and they're really stuggling right now. It benefits all of us for them to work.

We went to the architectural salvage place today and a few retail places. It was most interesting.

Our bathrooms are TINY so making good use of the space is really important. (We're thinking of changing to pocket doors just to save the door swing space -- since we're demolishing the room it shouldn't cost much to change over. Anyway, that gives you and idea of how small we're talking about.)

More specifically the room is about 6x9. By knocking down one wall we will get about one more foot -- making the room 6x10.

The outside wall is the "wet" wall. To reconfigure that would be really expensive so that limits us to where things can be moved.

To further complicate things we have our short term goals and our long term goals. We would love to just install a shower in the upstairs bath since we're all shower people. But we realize a house in a neighborhood where people raise kids needs a bathtub and it will be important if we ever want to sell the house. Plus, the downstairs bathroom needs to be the one with only a shower since the guest bedroom is downstairs and when our parents visit they have a hard time getting into a bathtub since they're old (and we know we'll be old before we know it and will probably want it for us).

CJane -- I was glad to see you post. Once upon a time you posted a really beautiful bathroom (it was mostly green, very 1920s style) and I have driven myself crazy trying to find that photo again. Do you know the one I mean? Do you still have it?

I think it was in one of the real estate listings - it was a tudor style house and
the bathroom looked similar to this one, right?

@CalamityJane,
Very similar but not the photo I'm thinking of.

This one had a toilet that had a tank that hung high on the wall.

It was a Tudor style house, though, most likely from a real estate listing. It might have had a yellow kitchen........

I've had that bathroom in my head ever since you posted it.

But this photo is very close to what I want to do too! Thanks!

@boomerang,
Yes, it was a tudor style house, it's no longer on the market and I checked
here all home improvement threads but couldn't find it either. I know exactly
the bathroom - it was small but so nicely done. The kitchen was yellow, yes.

While searching in your old threads I found this bathroom - it's still great.

Not very appealing, tsar - not the shoe tub or the whirlpool.

This is a very unique bathroom bidet with a hose/extendable faucet that pulls out and a very deep/narrow basin. Villeroy-Boch Magnum is the name of it and it's about $400 on the web.

This is a nice arrangement. CJ. I think the tub and sink are Kohler. I would not go with the overhead toilet tank, but everything else looks very nice. Although this set up would not allow for a practical shower.

@Green Witch,
The newer large orifice -small reserve toilets kill any need for those clunky high tank toilets unless someone is dead set trying to recreate the Victorian bathroom look.

Yeah CJane! That's the bathroom. Thank you for finding it!

These kind of tubs don't make for great showers. Most of the plumbing we've looked at for them just has a little hand shower thingy.

@Green Witch,
Greenie, that picture is from a real estate listing. It's an old tudor style house
and they remodeled it nicely. As for the toilet tank, I have no clue why they
kept the old tank there, especially since everything else is remodeled so perfectly. My only guess is that it would have been a major plumbing job, or
to keep some authenticity left, I don't know.

Yes, it would be difficult to take showers in a clawfoot tub, you'd need an
extra shower or use a handheld shower which is impractical.
