@tsarstepan,
I don't know. I have no interest in Clooney's movie and I love Bridges in Crazy Heart but I do think that Firth's role was more subtle and that the film is better.

@tsarstepan,
I thought about this for a couple of days. While Firth is wonderful at portraying grief in Single Man, he is, all things considered, a quiet, compressed, minimalist actor. The role was brilliant and the movie well written but . . . with the exception of his decision not to commit suicide . . . the character did not change. Bad Blake changed. I think, on reflection, that Jeff should get the Oscar.

Speaking of change, the lead in District 9, who never made a movie before, certainly handled the change in his character well.

@tsarstepan,
gonna be listening to the oscars this year

the ron & fez show (sirius 197/xm 202) are simulcasting (with out actual audio, but providing their own brand of mockery) the event, should be a blast

I agree -- he did an amazing job and this is one of my favorite films of the year. I can't believe he wasn't nominated for best actor. (Not sure who he'd replace, but either Firth or Clooney would have worked for me).

@Irishk,
I don't understand why he wasn't nominated either.

@plainoldme,
Simple discrimination against his playing a lead in a science fiction film. If they Academy didn't raise the BP nominations to 10 then District 9 would never have been nominated for anything other then the technicals.

I'm going to tape the Awards and watch Up........again. In a perfect world (mine lol) it would win best pic since it has it all (imho).

Dreaming, I know.

I am going to be very sad if Avatar walks away with Best Picture. Really, it might deserve some other of the nods it got, and even to win in those categories, but it does not deserve the win here. It should be based on how good the film is, not how much money it grossed.

@Seed,
It seems we have some agreement. The Hurt locker, followed by District 9, followed by Up, with Avatar playing left right out.

@Ionus,
Though I really really enjoyed Hurt Locker, I would much rather see District 9 winner. Simply because Hurt Locker was a movie that was made to be some what true to what is/was going in with the job of an EOD guy and the war. With that said, there were something things in that movie that were not very true at all.

I would like to see District 9, Hurt Locker, Inglorious Bastards, with Avatar running a distance, but very close 10th

They should have said "It's an honor to not get nominated"
