Goto one of the free photograph hosting sites like http://tinypic.com/, http://www.flickr.com/, or http://photobucket.com/. I use Tiny Pic ... I guess because someone in another forum recommended it.

Create an account. Follow their easy step by step directions to uploading your photographs to their respective servers.

To change your avatar, you will need an account with http://en.gravatar.com/. You can just upload the photographs from your harddrive directly to Gravatar.com or use one of the links provided to you when you upload your photographs from the photo storing services listed above.

I think with gravatar, one signs up with one's a2k name and the email address one used to sign up for a2k... and once you put your photo on gravatar, gravatar gets it to a2k as your avatar (this can take some time) but I'll double check that and report back soon.

Here is how I described it to Merry Andrew awhile ago. Not sure if these instructions worked for him or not:

(Note: these are updated instructions, since ImageShack has recently changed their format.)

Step one: Navigate your browser to this site ...

http://www.imageshack.us/

Step two: Where it says "Upload", you want to click on the "Browse" button.

Step three: Locate the scanned photo you saved on your computer.

Step four: Click "Start Upload" (You could get fancy and "resize" the photo at this point, but let's not go crazy just yet.)

Step five: When it's finished uploading, you should see a thumbnail image of your pic.

Step six: Select and "copy" the text in the "Forum Code" box.

Step seven: "Paste" that text directly in an A2K thread.

Voila.

I shoud try that.

Thank you Tico, couldn't seem to get Flickr to work. Now. Everything works fine until I get to Step Six: Select and "copy" the text in the "Forum Code" box.
So. How do I then jump to "an A2K thread ? Where is the A2K thread while I'm doing first 5 steps? The "paste" thing is faded out, you know, you can't click on it.

During the first 5 steps, your A2K thread could be open, you could have already started a reply, or it could be closed -- it just doesn't matter.

Once you have "copied" the contents of the "Forum Code" box (you use your browser's "copy" function, btw ... it's not an ImageShack "copy" function), you need to navigate your browser to the A2K thread where you want the picture. How you navigate back to the A2K thread you wish to reply in depends on you and your browser. Once you are there and you are ready to post your reply, all you need to do is "paste" into your reply the contents of the "Forum Code" box, again using your browser's "paste" function.

ALTERNATIVE INSTRUCTIONS:
Instead of copying the "Forum Code" contents, you could instead copy the "Direct Link" contents.
Step six: Select and "copy" the text in the "Direct Link" box.
Step seven: Navigate to your A2K thread and to your reply box.
Step eight: Click the "Img" box above your A2K reply. That inserts the [img] and [/img] "tags" in your reply.
Step nine: Paste the contents of the "Direct Link" ImageShack box between the [img] and [/img] "tags" in your reply.
Step ten: Preview your post to make sure the image is showing.
