Well, isn't some of the historical information regarding the various populations, wars, etc. true? Isn't that why some scientists and researchers are trying to find the Ark, etc? There has to be some truth in there.

I don't believe anybody lived to be 1100, but there probably were guys called Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

The ark?

Sorry but the same people who are looking for flying horses are the ones looking for a fairy tale ship make out of wood and yet so large that it could somehow carry samples of all the animal lives on the planet!

@BillRM,
yea, but the search for the ark, by those of us who are educated and farther along technologically is kinda pointless, right? More than likely, a flood happened. More than likely, It happened in the area that "word of mouth communications" could have spread. (perhaps this mode of communication is undeterminable, and undefined unmeasurable) But the likelihood his little flood was at Waterworld capacity as the bible described is geologically pretty fuckin hard to believe. What year was this supposed flood?

@jesusBastard,
Many floods happen all through history and flood stories exist in a large percent of all world cultures but a world wide flood and dealing with it by building a super wooden ship is complete myth on all levels.

And looking for this myth of a ship is beyond being silly unless some TV show or others are paying you big dollars to do so.

I saw that show. Was it not real or just sensationalised?

I'm of the belief that some (many?) of the bibles stories ar rooted in fact but distorted by time and many retellings.
Some are twisted to suit a particular persons viewpoint or agenda at that time then distorted further to suit another persons agenda, then changed a bit more by someone misinterpreting what was really meant when translating the story from another language.

Possibly what was meant in the Ark story by "all the Animals" was all the animals they could gather or all the animals that were important to domestic life.
Flooding the world may have meant the world as it was known then which might have been a pretty small area.

@dadpad,
Personally I would not count on anything being true about that story except that where it was written there had been a large flood within a generation or two of the story being written.

Trying to find the remains of the ark is just like trying to find the body of Oedipus buried in Thebes...it's just silly.

@jesusBastard,
There is many truths in the Bible and it cannot be explained how these truths were known by these ancient people.....................

The earth free-floats in space (Job 26:7), affected only by gravity. While other sources declared the earth sat on the back of an elephant or turtle, or was held up by Atlas, the Bible alone states what we now know to be true - "He hangs the earth on nothing."

Creation is made of particles, indiscernible to our eyes (Hebrews 11:3). Not until the 19th century was it discovered that all visible matter consists of invisible elements.
Heb 11:3, By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.

Our bodies are made from the dust of the ground (Genesis 2:7; 3:19). Scientists have discovered that the human body is comprised of some 28 base and trace elements - all of which are found in the earth.

At a time when many thought the earth was flat, the Bible told us that the earth is spherical.
He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, Isaiah 40:22

If you really want to know what is true and what is false in the Bible you should read some books about archeology.
Then donĀ“t forget there are historical happenings which have been told over generations and also been changed to make a better or worse story.

People think that archaeology is out there to prove the Bible. No archaeologist thinks so. The truth of the matter is that archeology raises more questions about the historicity of the Hebrew Bible and even the New Testament than it provides answers, and that's very disturbing to some people

The debate is usually articulated between Biblical maximalists, the assumption that the Bible is historically correct, and Biblical minimalists, the assumption that the Bible is mostly myth. Despite an on-going debate of the issue, the prevailing view still holds that the Bible is not wholly a work of fiction.

Archaeology as it is practiced today must be able to challenge, as well as confirm, the Bible stories. Some things described there really did happen, but others did not. Epecially in the recent books"is first that the biblical narratives are indeed 'stories,' often fictional and almost always propagandistic, but that here and there they contain some valid historical information

Now a god with a sense of humor might do such a thing but the one fact we know for sure is that the monster that is the bible god does not have a sense of humor.
He created you, didn't he?

I dunno, I'm not an atheist, but I love to talk about christianity's crazy ideas...
OK , why not?
I submit the bible is entirely true according to what it is trying to accomplish.

It is not a scientific treatise to tickle the arrogant brains of 'intellectuals'.

It was written so the least sophisticated of us could understand it, including those grammatically challenged. Laughing

It explains the order of creation in seven periods of time, the seventh of which has not yet ended.

It explains the issues raised by the one called Satan, particularly that of God's right to set standards for those whom he has created, and it defines the instrument by which he will correct the sufferings caused by the Edenic rebellion.

It clearly defines God's viewpoint of sin

It explains why we have war, crime, sickness, and death.

More to it, of course, but I like to keep things simple.

Check out some of the incredible natural things in this world.........the universe, the human body, birth, amazing animals and land forms...............If one sees that all these wonders were not mere accidents but created by a far greater force, spirit....whatever.....than the creations themselves than anything is possible. The seemingly impossible tales in the Bible suddenly become possible...........the Bible, called God's book, gives much info that we should first investigate (most people who criticize God and the Bible and Christianity have not explored at all or very little.
