Blatham -- I noted in another thread that there has been talk about the US laying itself wide open for sanctions but (more seriously, I gather) for individual lawsuits which could cost us plenty and go on for years. And so the Perle statement will be interesting for prospective prosecutors, don't you think?
Lawsuits by whom? Filed in what court? Under the jurisdiction of what power? This is a fantasy. The United States is a sovereign power.
And by God, we can throw our weight around if we want to. Forget about the "rule of law" that was so very very important when it came to Clinton's dalliances............his playful fun, but when it comes to war........we're a ******* sovereign power and the rule of law be damned.
Lola

My god you just turned into an animal
yeah, I can be animal.........did you ever doubt it? Isn't it fun? cigar anyone?
Betwixt two things, I choose sharing a cigar with you.
Settle down and answer my post----I got the funny idea we were about to agree on something
Settle down!? Let's don't quit now. We're in agreement, I think..........on this fact.........I'm a wild thing ready for agreement. (Shhhhhhh, don't tell.)
But also, what were you thinking of, perc? Agreement on which point?
Brand X
Back off ----you're talking to the jewel in my harem
You wanna me breaka yo face? I don't know who said that but I like it
Perc and Brand X,
LOL...........very nice
Oh hell let's just take a walk in the park and -----look---at the ----stars-----and -----talk about----old times.................
George's pissed-off idea that we are answerable to no one is exactly my point. But aside from that, I can well imagine aggrieved plaintiffs suing the US in its own courts.
On the other hand, as long as corporations own our courts...:

The government can be sued in our courts only if it consents to it. There is no international tribunal that exercises compulsory jurisdiction over the United States. That is the law.
Not 'pissed off' at all. Merely bemused at your misconceptions.
Do you like the notion that our government is answerable, effectively, to no one?
I would prefer a government answerable to its citizens.
Tartarin,
That question just doesn't arise. It is a fact that we are a sovereign state and that we and other such states have not yet found a way to acknowledge a superior power and trust our fates to its adjudication. Moreover, we in our social and political compact, our Constitution, have not empowered our government to submit us to the control of any other body. More or less the same is true of others. The degrees of political maturity and openness among the governments of the world varies widely. This limits the potential of all international bodies, particularly including the UN. Very difficult for such bodies to rise much above the levels of its least developed members, particularly in areas where the stakes are high and there is not general agreement.
Accountability is a fine concept, but it requires an object for that accountability. If none of sufficient stature exists then the concept is merely an abstraction, lacking concrete meaning.
Oh bother, george.........you're such a party pooper
