@alex240101,
Thnaks, Iz --- I had seen on the World news how the entire Continent of Europe is covered in snow. This puts it into perspective. WOW !!

Here is a FACTUAL account of our best friends =
THE ORIGIN OF PETS

A newly discovered chapter in the Book of Genesis has provided the answer to "Where do pets come from?"

Adam and Eve said, "Lord, when we were in the garden, you walked with us every day. Now we do not see you any more. We are lonesome here, and it is difficult for us to remember how much you love us."

And God said, "No problem! I will create a companion for you that will be with you forever and who will be a reflection of my love for you, so that you will love me even when you cannot see me. Regardless of how selfish or childish or unlovable you may be, this new companion will accept you as you are and will love you as I do, in spite of yourselves."

And God created a new animal to be a companion for Adam and Eve.

And it was a good animal.

And God was pleased.

And the new animal was pleased to be with Adam and Eve and he wagged his tail.

And Adam said, "Lord, I have already named all the animals in the Kingdom and I cannot think of a name for this new animal."

And God said, "No problem. Because I have created this new animal to be a reflection of my love for you, his name will be a reflection of my own name, and you will call him DOG."

And Dog lived with Adam and Eve and was a companion to them and loved them.

And they were comforted.

And God was pleased.

And Dog was content and wagged his tail.

After a while, it came to pass that an angel came to the Lord and said, "Lord, Adam and Eve have become filled with pride. They strut and preen like peacocks and they believe they are worthy of adoration. Dog has indeed taught them that they are loved, but perhaps too well."

And God said, "No problem! I will create for them a companion who will be with them forever and who will see them as they are. The companion will remind them of their limitations, so they will know that they are not always worthy of adoration."

And God created CAT to be a companion to Adam and Eve.

And Cat would not obey them. And when Adam and Eve gazed into Cat's eyes, they were reminded that they were not the supreme beings.

And Adam and Eve learned humility.

And they were greatly improved.

And God was pleased.

And Dog was happy.

And Cat didn't give a #%!$ one way or the other.

The 3,000 members of the Jemez Pueblo are on the verge of building the nation's first utility-scale solar plant on tribal land, a project that could bring in millions of dollars.

Pretty cool....

Once thought to be extinct, scientists "rediscovered" the Cross River gorilla in the 1980s. Today it remains the rarest great ape, and lives only along the southern section of the Nigeria-Cameroon border.

Just 300 Cross River gorillas survive. Get a glimpse of their world.

Gathering Bahama Flamingos...
http://gallery.bahamas.com/assets/content/about/abou_abou_inag_md.jpg

Why are flamingos pink?
Feather color varies with species, ranging from pale pink to crimson or vermilion. Caribbean flamingos have the brightest coloration: crimson or vermilion. The Chilean flamingo is pale pink.
A flamingo's pink or reddish feather color comes from its diet, which is high in alpha and beta-carotene.
People eat beta-carotene when they eat carrots. Shocked

What do flamingos eat?
The typical flamingo diet consists of diatoms, seeds, blue-green alage, crustaceans, and mollusks they filter out of the water. Using their long legs and partially webbed feet, flamingos will stamp on the muddy bottom of lagoons to mix the food particles with the water. Different species of flamingo have slightly different shaped bills; the different shapes helping it obtain slightly different types of food. Flamingos drink fresh water.

They are very interesting tall birdals.

@High Seas,
Hi Hoft!

Also, the runoff from factory farms (after poisoning well water and streams) flows to the ocean. Politics aside...the goverment must act swiftly to deter any more CAFO's from being built and place heavy fines on existing polluter farms.

Now there is a remarkable photo! Beautiful, thanks.

@danon5,
Just came across this photo from 40 yrs ago. It was my very first mission flying in Vietnam. I came across the scene and snapped a shot. If you look closely you can see vehicles on the road - they had come under attack by an ambush from the forest - I could see flashes from both sides. I called in what I saw and went on to my mission spot. Welcome to a free Tropical Vacation courtesy of the US Army. Grin
You can see how the treeline had been cleared back from the road. Lotsa trees laid down. That part was not a good thing.

@Izzie,
Hi all, all clicked...

It wasn't much - I just looked and left the area to do my work before the artillery started to come in on the spot. You never know which direction that stuff is coming from and don't want to be in the way. Like one day much later I was RTB (returning to base) and flying along in clear blue sky when all of a sudden it felt like the plane hit a brick wall. Afterward I found out that one of the battleships the Navy had out in the S. China Sea had fired a 16 inch shell in the area and I had passed it's trajectory. The shock wave of air was enough to bounce my 16,000 pound aircraft around like it was nothing. Just another day in paradise.
