Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night

I don't know why. It just bugs the hell out of me when people use it. It's the biggest cliche of the holidays and it shows no originality at all. I am not even sure if the first place it was found was the story "Twas the Night before Christmas" or not.

People have been saying it for as long as the story has been written. You would think by now someone would come out with something else to say by now. But nope, looks like we will have to be unoriginal for another season. (I say it as well, cringe every time too!)

But it's almost Christmas here so I'ma go wait for the fat man!

@Seed,
Good news. Clement Moore did not write those words. He wrote these. "Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!"

So you see, it was not Twas the Night Before Christmas that added to your angst. It was someone else. Who? I don't know.

Happy Christmas!

Good night.

Wink

P.S.
Did you find your pants?

I'm sure it's from Scrooge - Bob Cratchett, I believe.
In any case, it's just a salutation.

Sorry - it IS from Night Before Christmas.
I'm still buzzed from last nights wine.
I'm trying to drink my way thru this holiday . . . .

they may get away with that phrase in canada.

in texas, if you had a witness, that phrase would automatically acquit you of manslaughter during the months of july, august and september.

the polite way to express to another that you think it's quite warm is to spontaneously combust
