Zotye? Other electric cars?

I've been toying with the idea of making my next car an electric one. I won't be needing a new car for 2-3 or more years. Hell, I can drive the corolla I have forever.

I don't want a high priced vehicle, would like to spend around $20k, minus the $7500 electric car credit.

So....what's on the horizon?

@chai2,
There isn't many fully blown electric cars on the market but if you start saving you could try and reach for the sky and this Tesla Roadster:

@tsarstepan,
In theory, in 2011 there will be the Chevrolet Volt...
but I sincerely don't believe it's going to be as low as $20,000 (your price range). I don't think there is such a vehicle (fully electric car at such a price range....)

Reva electric cars.
Dont think they are available in the US.... so that makes this a particularily useless post.

Electric cars are merely passing the buck from one dirty energy source to another; in this case from petrol in the tank.. to coal at the power station. unless of coures you have solar recharging.

@tsarstepan,
This article lists a few manufacturers ... but I never heard of them and I doubt that some of them are actually street legal in the United States:

Blade electric vehicals are retrofitted Hyunai Getz
http://www.bev.com.au/level2/electron_today.html
Blade Electric Vehicles (BEV) retrofits the Hyundai Getz to electric drive for government, business and private use.

In 2009 BEV obtained its license through DOTARS as an automotive development and production company for 2nd stage automotive manufacture. As such the Electron can be registered in every state of Australia.
Performance 0-60 in 7 seconds and a top speed of 110kph
100km primary range
200km with 'one hour' recharge during shift break

Price $48,000

Technology is being developed to alow flexible polymers to be used in solar cells. Your electric car will be covered in theses cells allowing your car to recharge a little as it drives

Aaaand.... I see articals from time to time about service stations having battery pack change facilities. The proponant of this scheme proposes that all cars have a similar battery installation. you drive over a pit wherea robotic arm removes your battery pack and installs a new one then you drive off after paying.
Removed batteries are recharged and reused next day.

I rather think that individual car companies would prefer to keep their installations separate and set up their own network of service stations or francise the servicing of battery packs.

@dadpad,
Somehow, I think I know which one of us would be getting the prefried battery pack, and his name isn't you.

Dayum. I could drive halfway to albuquerque before needing a charge. Unless I were using headlights or air conditioner.
