The following is an excerpt from an Article presented here by BBB--called what it takes to become a Neo-Neoconservative. I see this as a trend for the ranks of the Neo-conservatives to swell---by other other liberals who have been "mugged by reality".. What do you think? To me Neo-conservatives are much more valuable to the Conservatives because they are intellectuals who have read and repudiated Marx.
This is by James Atlas and was printed in the NYTimes recently:
In the early stages of their ideological development, neoconservatives saw themselves more as reformed liberals than as true conservatives. Mr. Bell, who predicted "the end of ideology," identified himself as a socialist; Mr. Kristol identified himself ?- in a famous formulation ?- as a liberal who has been "mugged by reality."
Yet in the end, all were liberals who, by the 1970's and the midpoint in their careers, were proud to identify themselves as neoconservatives, who were not the heirs of classical conservatism but rather had discovered the limitations of liberalism. A neoconservative, it might be postulated, is one who read and repudiated Marx; a conservative, one who read and embraced Hume, Locke and Hobbes.
This generation of liberal intellectuals, like its precursors, prefers to see itself less as a political coalition than as an assemblage of writers with diverse views ?- which of course it is. Ideological labels are always provisional. Yet however much their attitudes toward the war in Iraq differ from those of such contemporary neoconservatives as William Kristol and Robert Kagan, they are heirs of the same intellectual tradition. Given this, can they still be classified as liberals? Or could it be that they've become . . . neoconservatives?

What's the question? Why not discuss the issue on BBB's thread from which you quote?
The question is----will more and more intellectual liberals
" get mugged by reality".
I wanted to discuss it and tried but I think a lot of people missed it and it was sliding off the board----BBB is rather prolific with the cut and paste topic.
This is horse ****. You will find every stripe of liberal or conservative if you look hard enough. If some liberals have gone bad, what has that to do with the rest of us? Neoconservatism is a blight on humanity regardless of its origins. It is supported by Republicans because true liberals want no part of it.
Good of you to presume to speak for "all" liberals Let's see your "spokespersons" badge Edgar.
damn, i hate it when edgar has an opinion and forgets to put his badge on.
What does how prolific BBB's cut and pasting is have to do with one's ability to keep a discussion current by posting something thought provoking in the topic thread? Seems like that would be the "intellectual" thing to do whether you are liberal, conservative or neo-conservative .
Perception can't have the same fun baiting "liberals" if no one is paying any attention to the effort in the other thread. So he starts over in this thread, in the hope that someone will take the bait, or take offense. Caveat Emptor . . . don't rise to the bait, and you'll spoil his nasty little game.
You gotta love the U.S.A. Imagine being able to sum up the entire spectrum of human political thought in two words: Liberal, Conservative. Millions of types of junk food, only 2 political parties. Makes ya think....
Please choose one from column A, or from column A.1 . . .
If Dubya was a Hostess product, what would he be, a Twinkie or a Fruit Pie?
Intelligent Liberals?!? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
What is this? an oxymoron thread?
He would be a Ho-Ho . . .
LOL! Perception sets up a thesis that the only intelligent non-conservative is a non-non-conservative!
Sorta like the only good ..... is a dead......
McGentrix, how do you know that liberals are less intelligent than conservatives? Did you measure their skulls and compare their size to conservatives? Oh, I forgot...that's a terribly outdated methodology....

Because most liberals are dumb.
You can tell by their beliefs and by their actions.
