And Mr. B said "Let there be light fixtures."

@boomerang,
How about something like this, related to track lighting but not track -- it wires into an existing ceiling junction box:

@Lightwizard,
I like that if I could find one that didn't have such hard lines.

That's kind of what I was going for with this:

http://images.lampsplus.com/images/22217.fpx?cell=509,476&qlt=75&cvt=jpeg

Is that called track lighting? Is that what I should look under? Can you buy a variety of shades for something like that?

I would love to find something that fell right in between those two lights, less ornate than my example, a bit more decorative than yours.

@boomerang,
No, they usually don't give you any choice on a fixture like that. Here's another choice and not expensive:

Now I just need that vagina couch that was once listed on craigslist....

This one's kind of cool:

If you can handle Alfa's 9 foot curved track from a central canopy where the 12 v transformer is hidden (that's 4.5 feet out from the canopy), that means you can adjust certain spots towards the walls to light pictures.

I love all that "atomic age" stuff. If we ever end up moving back to our other house I'm totally going atomic with the decor.

I went to the lighting store today and spent some time wandering and looking. Found something I like for the back porch:

http://images.lampsplus.com/images/58563.fpx?cell=245,245&qlt=75&cvt=jpeg

Something I like for the front porch (this isn't it but it's close-ish)

http://images.lampsplus.com/images/90534.fpx?cell=245,245&qlt=75&cvt=jpeg

Something I'm considering for the entry space:

http://images.lampsplus.com/images/cropped/01904cropped.fpx?cell=330,330&qlt=75&cvt=jpeg

But I'm still stumped on the dining room.

I really like those mono-track systems (thanks Lightwizard, I hadn't looked at anything like that). I love the flexibility of the lights -- you can move them around! Very cool.

But they sure get expensive quick! I sat down with a catalogue of fixtures and picked one I like -- $280 per light. It needs at least three lights. Add the cost of the track and I am way over budget.

The flowery kind of thing I posted above is pretty in real life, but smaller than I suspected. It isn't a "bowl" or a "nipple" so it's gaining in the competition but I'm not crazy about it.

Boomer, are we talking about the same room you were seeking help with paint colors a few months ago? If so, here's the photo you posted at that time. Perhaps this will help people get an idea of the room's geography.

Oh gosh. The room looks so different now, I'll have to update my photo! The walls are a different color and I have different curtains, the windows are now painted. It hardly looks the same but yes, that's the room!

We stopped by the lighting shop tonight and I was surprised that Mr. B liked the sparkly, flowery light I posted at first. He thought it was kind of cool and funky. We're still looking at a few options though.

Our bathroom remodel starts next week and I am in charge of finding the right light.

We're doing the room sort of like this:

http://www.renohouse.ca/images/retro1.jpg

I found this light that I like but I'm not sure it really matches:

http://www.destinationlighting.com/images/products_dtl/773/87773~dtl.jpg

The stained glass is a pinkish white and the dot details are green.

I also like this modern one because it reminds me of bubbles, which might be fun for a bathroom.

http://image.lampsplus.com/is/image/J9411.fpx?qlt=75&wid=330&hei=330&fit=constrain&fmt=jpeg

All of the plumbing fixtures are chrome with those white accents with black lettering.

Which one do you like?

And for your dining room, the chandelier you were asking about in a past thread:

I actually kinda wanted this light for the front porch....

http://www.rejuvenation.com/graphics/products/big/Z001665.png

...but I don't have $2,000 to spend on a light.

I had to order something today so I went with the "girly" stained glass light. We couldn't really do sconces in this bathroom since we're refinishing the orginal medicine cabinet and needed something that would go over it.

The demolition starts this Friday and Mr. B has insisted that EVERYTHING has to be ordered to be delivered by next week at the VERY LATEST.
