Skagen is where Skagerak and Kattegat meat.
Thez could be fishing cod but also herring, hake, shrimps, crawfish, flatfish, haddock and others.

Heres a neat "Grand Banks " style painting by Thomas M Hoyne. His work was almost wntirely done on location (He rode along with the cod fleets)

Heres a Chritopher Blossom painting of the Americ' cup race that ws attended by The King and when he asked <"Well who's in second place?"
(Knowing that the America was in the lead)The king's secretary answered
"Your majesty, there is no second place"
