Nearest maccas is about an hour from my town. We have a subway but I've never been in it.

According to answers.com, Walmart...

"...is the world's #1 retailer, with more than 7,870 stores, including about 890 discount stores, 2,970 combination discount and grocery stores (Wal-Mart Supercenters in the US and ASDA in the UK), and 600 warehouse stores (SAM'S CLUB). About 55% of its stores are in the US, but Wal-Mart continues expanding internationally; it is the #1 retailer in Canada and Mexico and it has operations in Asia (where it owns a 95% stake in Japanese retailer SEIYU), Europe, and South America...."

@Green Witch,
And it shows in the profit margins at the end of the year as one of the article's said.

Quote:
According to a food industry research group, the average McDonald's pulls in more than $2 million. A Subway store makes about $500,000.

I can see why McDonald's is so strict with their franchise licenses.

@noinipo,
I dunno...a Tim Horton's can really mess me up. And don't get me started about poutine...

@panzade,
I took Thomas to a Timmy's yesterday - poutine at Harveys last night.

He's apparently still alive. Diet's not doing so well though.

Subway is SO much better than McDonalds.

I spend probably $100-$1 more dollars at Subway than McD's.

@noinipo,
We can't blame just Mickey D's. Most fattening food is cheap in America. You can buy a loaf of white bread, a dozen sugary snack cakes, boxes of macaroni with cheese, oversized bags of corn chips and thick tubes of pork sausage each for less than a dollar. We also have a society based on driving around in a car and sitting in front of computers. Plenty of cheap, fattening food and a sedentary lifestyle is our problem.

@Green Witch,
In downeast MAine there are 2 Mac dees. One in Calais and the other in MAchias. However, Maine is famous for fried sweet dough and doughnut bread, and jelly donuts. People cross the MAine border into New Brunswick just for the Timmy Hortons . SO McDees is not the only arterial cloggin crap out there.

@farmerman,
Not to mention all those lovely lobster rolls and deep fried crabs with a side of crispy potatoes.

@Green Witch,
not an ounce of anything nasty in a lobster roll, its a white meat surrounded by a white condiment on a white roll. Its heavenly.
